Mark Zuckerberg opens up about his family life

In a recent interview with podcaster and computer scientist Lex Fridman, the Meta CEO opened up about his family life and revealed how he and his daughters, Maxina (five) and August (four), wind down for bedtime after a busy day.

Mark Zuckerberg is known as one of the most influential people on the planet. But when he is not busy working, the Facebook-founder likes the simpler things in life, like having evening rituals with his two daughters.

According to Business Insider South Africa, the doting dad calls their bedtime ritual “goodnight things”.

“I basically go through with Max and Augie, what are the things that are most important in life?” he said during the interview.

Zuckerberg explained that the most important things in life includes good personal health, taking care of oneself, keeping yourself in shape, loving friends and family, and getting to share something that they are excited about in the future.

He added saying that the world could be a “heavy place” for a four-year-old but, having things to look forward to is a good way to navigate though daily life.

“So whether it is building AR glasses for the future or being able to celebrate my 10-year wedding anniversary with my wife that’s coming up,” he said.

The last thing he asks his girls before heading to bed, is what they did that day to help someone. This includes helping their mother, Priscilla Chan, set the table for dinner or helping a classmate at school.

“If you were to boil down my overall life philosophy in what I try to impart to my kids, those are the things that I think are really important,” he said.

Zuckerberg and Chan got married in 2012.

In an interview with The Times, Priscilla said that Zuckerberg also likes to make time for some father-daughter coding before going to bed.

“Mark has been doing that with August since she turned three,” she told The Times.

She added that she handles the kids’ morning routine while Zuckerberg is hands-on in the evening.
