As the excitement of the new football season unfolds, Mamelodi Sundowns star Grant Kekana has opened up about a minor issue the team faced that led to a shaky start.

Despite this setback, Kekana is optimistic about the squad’s resilience and potential moving forward.

The 2024/25 season began with high hopes for Sundowns, especially as they participated in the MTN8 tournament.

Unfortunately, their journey was cut short when they faced Stellenbosch FC in the semi-finals, ultimately losing 2-0 on aggregate.

However, since that disappointment, the team has bounced back impressively, claiming victory in their last five matches across various competitions, including the Champions League and the Betway Premiership.

In the Champions League, Sundowns made headlines by annihilating Mbabane Swallows with an impressive 8-0 aggregate win, securing their spot in the group stage.

In the Betway Premiership, they’re currently in a tie for the top position with Orlando Pirates, both teams sitting on nine points after a strong start.

Sundowns have been on fire lately, showcasing their talent with significant wins against notable rivals.

They defeated SuperSport United 2-0, overpowered Marumo Gallants 4-1, and triumphed over Kaizer Chiefs with a 2-1 victory.

Grant Kekana Reflects on Team’s Resilience

Kekana acknowledged that the team had a rough start this season but stressed their ability to bounce back.

He pointed out that despite the early struggles, there was no sense of panic among players or coaches.

Under the guidance of coach Manqoba Mngqithi, the team has refocused and regained their form.

“I think it was just a small glitch. We started slow, but we were performing well.

That’s something we want to improve as a team going forward,” Kekana explained.

He emphasized the calm atmosphere within the club, saying, “There was no panic from us or anything like that. Now things are quite well, and I’ve been with him [coach Manqoba Mngqithi] ever since I have been at Sundowns.”
