In the midst of an internal investigation, the Labour Party has suspended the whole Leicester East branch.
The dysfunctional constituency party is currently under investigation by the National Executive Committee (NEC) because of issues with how it is run.
The specific cause of the suspension is still unknown.
“The NEC has a duty to safeguard the integrity of CLPs (constituency Labour Parties), to ensure that they are properly run in accordance with the party’s rules and procedures and can operate fully, inclusively, and democratically,” a Labour Party source said.
After Labour won only 31 seats in the city’s municipal elections in May, compared to 53 in 2019, there have been questions about the party’s performance.
