After much speculation, Kaizer Chiefs have finally made a call on Itumeleng Khune’s future.
The Khune Saga
It’s been quite a journey. Last season, Kaizer Chiefs announced that Khune would be signing his final contract as a player.
Despite his impressive 25 years with the club, his appearances were limited to just five games.
The team honored the 37-year-old for his dedication, but Khune quickly set the record straight—he wasn’t retiring, even though the club had indicated no further deals.
Rumors soon swirled that Khune might transition to a coaching role.
However, with the arrival of new coach Nasreddine Nabi, who brought his own goalkeeper coach, Ilyes Mzoughi, those plans seemed to fizzle out.
Latest Developments
On Wednesday, Marketing Director Jessica Motaung spoke to the media, revealing that Khune would either be offered a marketing role within the club or be allowed to explore opportunities elsewhere.
Motaung expressed, “It would be a loss if Itu isn’t part of the Chiefs family, but he will always be a part of us.”
She added, “If he decides to pursue other options, the door will always be open for his return, as he’s such a legend for the Chiefs.”
Keagan Dolly Speaks Out
Former Kaizer Chiefs player Keagan Dolly recently opened up about the challenges he faced at the club.
During an interview with Robert Marawa on 947, Dolly addressed the rumors of his high salary, which he claimed were false.
Dolly revealed, “There was a story on Twitter claiming I was earning R1.4 million, but that wasn’t true at all.”
He explained how these false reports added immense pressure, making him feel the need to overperform and take on too many responsibilities.
“It was stressful trying to live up to these expectations, and it affected my game,” Dolly admitted.
He is currently looking for a new team after SuperSport United chose Vincent Pule over him.
