Kaizer Chiefs are dealing with an increasingly troubling injury list ahead of their upcoming match against third-placed Sekhukhune United.
Four key players are expected to miss the game, adding to the club’s growing list of unavailable stars.
Injury Update from Assistant Coach Khalil Ben Youssef
Assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef provided an update on the current state of the injured players.
According to Youssef, Ashley Du Preez, Gaston Sirino, Edson Castillo, and in-form Rushwin Dortley will all be sidelined.
While Dortley is still awaiting a medical report to determine his status, things are looking uncertain for the Bafana Bafana star.
“Ashley won’t be with us this week, and we’re still waiting on the report from the medical team to know when he’ll be fit again,” said Youssef.
“Castillo has a fracture, Sirino is also out, and Dortley returned from the national team with an injury.
We are managing his situation, but we’re not sure if he’ll be ready for the Sekhukhune game just yet.”
Challenges and Focus on Preparation
Despite the injury setbacks, Youssef emphasized that the team must continue to focus on their preparations.
The assistant coach expressed dissatisfaction with Kaizer Chiefs’ current season but underscored the importance of maintaining the right mindset moving forward.
“We don’t have time to dwell on this,” Youssef explained.
“That’s football — win or lose, you have to prepare for the next match.
Whether we win or lose against Sekhukhune, we’ll move forward, and we’ll continue to work hard.”
A Positive Outlook Despite Setbacks
Youssef remains optimistic about the team’s resolve.
“We believe in what we do, and all the players believe in their abilities.
They know what’s expected of them, and we’ll keep working toward the results we want.”
The coach concluded by reiterating the importance of perseverance: “There’s no shortcut to success.
To get the results we need, we have to keep working hard. That’s what we’ll do.”
