Julia Roberts has spent much of her career in the spotlight, but she and husband Danny Moder have taken a very different approach to raising their three children.

The couple’s twins, Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus Walter, and their younger son, Henry Daniel, have largely grown up away from red carpets, celebrity events and constant media attention.

Now that all three have reached adulthood and moved on to college, Roberts has entered a new stage of family life as an empty nester.

The Twins Were Julia Roberts’ First Children

Roberts and Moder welcomed twins Hazel and Phinnaeus on 28 November 2004.

The actress was 37 when she became a mother, having already established herself as one of Hollywood’s biggest stars and won an Academy Award for her performance in Erin Brockovich.

The twins turned 21 in November 2025, marking another significant milestone for the family.

Roberts celebrated their birthday on Instagram, describing Hazel and Phinnaeus as children who had transformed and expanded her life.

Hazel Has Made a Few Public Appearances

Hazel has remained largely private, but she has occasionally appeared alongside her parents.

Her most notable public appearance came at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, where she accompanied her father to the premiere of Flag Day. Moder worked as the film’s cinematographer.

Her resemblance to her famous mother attracted considerable attention during the appearance.

Hazel also had a small, uncredited appearance in Roberts’ 2016 film Mother’s Day, while her mother has previously spoken about wanting to pass down some of the personal memories of her relationship with Moder.

Roberts once revealed that she had kept the first lengthy love letter Moder wrote to her, intending to show it to Hazel one day.

Phinnaeus Has Kept a Lower Profile

Phinnaeus, who is often called Finn, has generally maintained an even lower public profile than his sister.

He shares his birthday with Hazel and has developed an interest in skateboarding, a hobby also associated with his younger brother.

In 2025, his father shared a video showing Phinnaeus demonstrating his skateboarding skills.

Beyond occasional family glimpses, little has been publicly revealed about his day-to-day life, reflecting the approach Roberts and Moder have taken to their children’s privacy.

Henry Is Now Away at College

The youngest member of the family is Henry Daniel Moder, who was born on 18 June 2007.

He turned 19 in June 2026 and is now attending college in New York City.

Henry has also occasionally appeared in family photographs and public outings, but he has largely avoided the entertainment spotlight.

During a family outing in New York following his birthday, Henry was photographed with his mother and sister.

He has even been able to borrow some of his mother’s famous wardrobe. Roberts revealed in 2025 that Henry had recently worn the grey Armani suit she famously wore at the 1990 Golden Globe Awards.

Roberts Deliberately Protected Her Children From Fame

For Roberts and Moder, keeping their children away from Hollywood was a conscious parenting decision.

The actress has explained that the timing of her career allowed her to devote substantial attention to family life after achieving major professional success.

She has also said that she and Moder share similar values when it comes to raising their children and allowing them to experience life away from celebrity culture.

As a result, the three children have rarely appeared on red carpets or featured prominently on their mother’s social-media accounts.

The Family’s Approach Has Given the Children Privacy

Roberts has previously suggested that children only know what their parents choose to expose them to, particularly when they are young.

That philosophy appears to have shaped the family’s decision to keep their home life private.

Although their parents are among Hollywood’s most recognisable figures, Hazel, Phinnaeus and Henry have not followed the typical path of growing up as constant subjects of celebrity coverage.

None of the three has pursued a professional acting career so far.

Julia Roberts Is Now an Empty Nester

The biggest change for Roberts came when Henry left home for college.

With all three children now living away from the family home, Roberts has acknowledged the emotional adjustment that comes with becoming an empty nester.

She has spoken about how much she enjoys spending time with her children and has joked about the difficulty of adjusting to a quieter home.

At the same time, she has begun considering what the next stage of her own career could look like.

A Return to Theatre Could Be Next

With her children no longer living at home, Roberts has indicated that she may have more freedom to take on demanding projects.

She has expressed interest in returning to the stage, explaining that theatre requires a level of concentration and commitment that became more difficult while raising children.

The actress continues to work in film, having starred in After the Hunt, directed by Luca Guadagnino, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2025.

A Private Family Behind a Famous Hollywood Name

Despite being born into one of Hollywood’s most famous families, Roberts’ three children have largely been allowed to build their lives away from the public eye.

Hazel, Phinnaeus and Henry are now adults navigating college and life beyond their parents’ home.

Their transition into adulthood marks the culmination of a parenting approach Roberts and Moder have maintained for more than two decades: allowing their children to grow up as normally as possible despite having one of the world‘s most recognisable actresses as their mother.
