Jason Hoganson, a former Hollywood actor, has once again made headlines—but this time for running from the law.
After being freed under a controversial early release scheme introduced by Keir Starmer, the 53-year-old actor, known for his role in the cult 80s film Empire State, is now on the run just weeks later.
His release, part of a larger initiative aimed at tackling prison overcrowding, ended up being short-lived.
The Release and Rearrest
Hoganson, who had served part of an 18-month sentence for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, gave a thumbs-up to cameras when he was let out of prison in September.
His freedom came as part of a larger batch of 1,700 prisoners released under the same measures.
However, just two days later, Hoganson was rearrested.
Authorities allege he breached a restraining order and committed another assault. Now, law enforcement is desperately trying to track him down.
A Distinctive Face
The police have launched a public appeal for help in locating Hoganson, sharing a photo of his very distinctive face.
Known for the scars that crisscross his face, tattoos on his head, and a noticeable chunk missing from his ear, Hoganson is hard to forget.
Northumbria Police have warned citizens not to approach him but to report any sightings immediately.
They also cautioned that harboring a wanted person could result in prosecution.
From Film Star to Criminal
Once a rising star, Hoganson gained attention in the late 80s for his role in Empire State, where he played a Geordie drifter caught in a world of mobsters.
Despite his early career success, he struggled to maintain it, spiraling into a life marked by alcohol, drugs, and crime.
Over the years, Hoganson amassed an extensive criminal record, with 109 convictions to his name.
His most recent conviction stemmed from an attack on his ex-girlfriend in December of last year.
Caught on doorbell footage, Hoganson is seen repeatedly slapping, pushing, and kicking the victim, who had a restraining order against him.
The attack lasted several minutes and left the woman badly injured.
A Dark History and a Troubled Future
Hoganson’s lawyer painted a picture of a man who had fallen from grace.
Once a promising actor, his time in the spotlight proved difficult for him to manage.
He turned to alcohol and drugs, which only deepened his struggles.
Despite a complex mental health history, Hoganson had worked as a mentor for others while in prison.
After admitting to assault and breaching a restraining order, Hoganson was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
But now, with his early release revoked, he’s evading the authorities.
Police are continuing to search for him, and it remains to be seen when or if he will be caught again.
