As a precaution against Hurricane Ian, Disney World will close its Florida theme parks and water parks on Wednesday and Thursday.
The organization stated on its website, “We continue to closely watch Hurricane Ian and are making the necessary operational adjustments to ensure the safety of our Guests and Cast Members.”
The closures effect Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park, Winter Summerland Miniature Golf, Fantasia Gardens, and Fairways Miniature Golf, in addition to Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park and EPCOT.
The ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex will also be closed, and the park has canceled any Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser “voyages” slated to begin on Tuesday or Thursday.
The Disney hotels and resorts will stay open, but visitors will be asked to check in by 3 p.m. on Wednesday and remain indoors “for the duration of the storm.” Due to the weather, these accommodations will be closed Wednesday through Friday: Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, and the Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
Disney World advised that hotel guests’ dining options “may vary and in other situations may be extremely limited.” The park said that cancellation fees will be waived for customers who wish to rebook or cancel their reservations.
Due to the storm, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, SeaWorld Orlando, Aquatica Orlando, and Discovery Cove have also stated they will be closed through Thursday.
In anticipation of the storm, businesses throughout the region are closing, and airlines are canceling flights.
Officials at Tampa International Airport have announced that they will cease all flight operations beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday in order to secure jet bridges, aircraft, and other infrastructure in preparation for the storm. The Orlando International Airport will suspend operations at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
