Heavy Rains Cause Passenger Train Derailment in Northern Russia Killing Three and Injuring Dozens

Following the derailment of a passenger train in Northern Russia, authorities have confirmed a third fatality.

A 16-year-old girl’s body was discovered at the crash site in the Komi Republic.

She had been traveling to Penza to visit her parents when the tragic accident occurred.

Her body was found beneath one of the train carriages, according to the Investigative Committee of Russia.

The accident happened on the evening of June 26, 2024, when nine carriages of the Vorkuta-Novorossiysk train derailed on the Northern Railway.

Heavy rains had caused a washout of the railway tracks, leading to the derailment.

The Ministry of Health reported that 40 people were injured, and Russian Railways confirmed that 46 passengers required medical assistance.

Compensation for Victims

In the aftermath of the accident, compensation plans have been announced for the victims and their families.

Relatives of the deceased will receive an insurance payment of 2 million 25 thousand rubles, with an additional 2 million rubles from Russian Railways.

Those who were hospitalized will receive a compensation of 1 million rubles.
