Hawks Capture Suspects in Malelane Cash-In-Transit Heist

In a swift operation on Friday morning, a team led by the Hawks apprehended four individuals involved in a cash-in-transit heist near Malelane, located in the province of Mpumalanga, South Africa.
Ambush on Armoured Vehicle
The incident occurred when a group of robbers ambushed an armoured vehicle belonging to Fidelity Services.
The targeted vehicle was en route from Malelane to Tonga when the assailants struck.

Vehicle Ramming and Heist
According to Hawks spokesperson Capt Dineo Sekgotodi, the robbers employed a C Class Mercedes-Benz to ram the armoured vehicle, causing it to lose control and overturn about 15 kilometers away from the N4 highway.
Taking advantage of the chaos, the criminals proceeded to blow up the truck and make off with R8,000 worth of coins that were intended for a business in Tonga.

Law enforcement swiftly mobilized to apprehend the perpetrators.

A joint team comprised of members from the Hawks’ Nelspruit-based serious organized crime investigation, the Nelspruit bomb disposal unit, private security firms, and other units apprehended four suspects and confiscated two vehicles implicated in the robbery.
The operation took place at a safe house in Schoemansdal.
Ongoing Investigations and Collaborative Efforts
Sekgotodi revealed that the pursuit of leads and further arrests is underway.
She emphasized that the Hawks are intensifying their efforts to curb criminal activities and expressed satisfaction in the collaborative approach taken by various law enforcement agencies.

Major-General Nicholas Jacobus Gerber, head of the Hawks in Mpumalanga, commended the dedication of law enforcement personnel involved in apprehending the suspects.
Major-General Gerber also urged the public to come forward with any information that could aid in the arrest of additional suspects related to the incident.
In their continued pursuit of justice, the Hawks remain resolute in their commitment to upholding law and order and ensuring the safety of the community.
