At 9:30 PM on a Saturday evening, a terrifying scene unfolded at Cantaritos Bar in Santiago de Querétaro, located northwest of Mexico City.
A group of four masked gunmen stormed the bar, launching a brutal attack that left 10 dead and 13 others injured.
The gunfire rang out, causing chaos as terrified patrons hit the floor to avoid being shot.
The Attack Unfolds
The suspects arrived in a silver pickup truck, and two of them entered the bar while the others stayed with the vehicle.
Video footage from the scene shows the deadly barrage of bullets tearing through the air.
Seven men and three women lost their lives in the massacre, and two others were seriously injured.
The assailants reportedly used long-range weapons to carry out the attack.
The Aftermath
In the aftermath, survivors could be seen sitting among the carnage, visibly shaken as they took in the extent of the devastation.
Authorities have confirmed that the suspects fled the scene in the pickup truck, which was later found completely burned out in El Marqués, approximately six miles outside the city.
Investigators believe the truck was set on fire to destroy any evidence.
Investigation and Arrests
The police were able to track the getaway vehicle’s license plate, which led them to the charred remains of the truck.
Authorities have already made one arrest in connection with the attack, though the motive remains unclear.
The investigation is still ongoing as officials work to identify the remaining suspects.
Governor’s Response
State Governor Mauricio Kuri condemned the massacre, calling it “unprecedented” and emphasizing that such violence will not be tolerated.
He reassured the public that the authorities were mobilizing to bring those responsible to justice, vowing to maintain strict security in the state and close the borders to prevent further criminal activity.
Crime Groups in the Region
Security experts, including analyst David Saucedo, have pointed out that multiple criminal organizations are active in the region, including the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel, Familia Michoacana, and a local gang involved in fuel smuggling.
The investigation continues, and the police are determined to track down all those responsible for the brutal attack.
Governor Kuri also promised support for the families of the victims as the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragic event.
