Balmoral Castle Expands Public Access with New Online Shop Selling Luxury Home Décor, Custom Tartan Goods, and Royal-Inspired Products from the Scottish Highlands

Balmoral Castle has opened a new online shop, offering a variety of exclusive items inspired by the royal family’s cherished Scottish residence.

For over 170 years, this majestic retreat has served as a summer home for the royal family, including the late Queen Elizabeth II, who spent her final days there.

The shop reflects the history and elegance of the estate, showcasing a range of luxury products that allow fans to take a piece of Balmoral home.

Luxury Collections Inspired by Balmoral

One standout feature of the new shop is a collection by leading designer Araminta Birse-Stewart, who has created items using the newly launched Balmoral hunting tartan.

These include a lavish £962 cashmere tartan throw, a £385 tartan scarf, and a £140 shawl.

For those seeking something different, the shop also offers a £750 deerskin zip-top backpack, a £365 thistle lamp, and a Balmoral tweed wool throw priced at £285.

For more modest purchases, shoppers can find Balmoral-inspired items such as cashmere socks for £38, baby boots priced at £29, and a Balmoral monogram Christmas decoration for £24.

Pet owners are not left out, with a Balmoral tweed treat bag for £30, a collar priced at £32, and a £40 lead available for their dogs.

Exclusive Souvenirs and Home Decor

The Balmoral Castle shop also features a selection of high-end souvenirs and home décor.

Among the most prestigious items is a hand-engraved crystal glass bowl with a 3D image of the castle and its grounds, listed at £2,050.

For those looking to elevate their tableware, the shop offers a range of luxury crockery, including a £150 tartan teapot, fine bone china plates priced at £69 each, and cups embossed with the Balmoral insignia for £39 each.

Other items bearing the Balmoral coat of arms include a £28 dog bowl, a £65 utensil pot, and a £15 teabag tidy.

The collection also includes more affordable products such as a £21 twin pack of tea towels, a £65 Balmoral hunting tartan tie, and a £25 hair scrunchie.

In addition, there’s a selection of gourmet treats, including Balmoral milk and dark chocolate, flapjacks, cookies, cheese sables, and ground coffee. Soft toy corgis are also available for £25.

King Charles’s Efforts to Open Balmoral to the Public

This new online shop aligns with King Charles’s ongoing efforts to make Balmoral Castle more accessible to the public.

As part of his initiative to introduce new revenue-generating measures, the King has already launched £250-a-head fine dining experiences.

Additionally, this winter, he is offering the unique opportunity to enjoy a £25 Sunday lunch at Balmoral for the first time, with all 70 tickets for the fine dining experience selling out quickly.

This initiative is part of King Charles’s broader vision to open up the iconic 50,000-acre estate to the public while maintaining its rich royal heritage.

While the estate has been a royal home since Queen Victoria purchased it in the mid-19th century, it gained worldwide attention in September 2022 when Queen Elizabeth II passed away at Balmoral.

Despite its global significance, the royal family has traditionally kept the castle and its surroundings private, visiting the estate during summer months.

Balmoral’s Changing Landscape

Balmoral has long been a beloved home for the royal family, with Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the family considered local fixtures in the nearby towns of Ballater and Braemar.

In a statement, Balmoral Castle and Estate emphasized that this is a period of transformation for the estate, which has been the royal family’s cherished home since 1852.

The estate is now embracing a new chapter, with a redesigned website and the launch of the Balmoral Castle Gift Shop, which ships worldwide.

The shop offers a variety of exclusive products, including handmade treasures by Scottish artisans, authentic local delicacies, and much more.

As Araminta Birse-Stewart, the designer behind the Balmoral hunting tartan, explained, she created the tartan to “tell the story” of Balmoral Castle and its legacy.

For her, the project was a dream come true.

With the new online store, visitors can now experience a piece of Balmoral’s timeless charm from anywhere in the world.
