In a horrifying incident in Kwara State, suspected kidnappers carried out a deadly attack that resulted in the killing of one person, serious injuries to two siblings, and the abduction of their mother.

The tragic event unfolded at approximately 10:00 pm on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, in the Alalubosa community, Okoolowo, Asa Local Government Area of the state.

Gunmen’s Rampage in Alalubosa Community

Reports indicate that the assailants, armed with AK-47 rifles and numbering about six, descended upon the Alalubosa community, instigating chaos with sporadic gunfire.

Frightened residents who had been outdoors at the time quickly sought refuge as the gunmen unleashed terror.

Tragic Demise and Injuries

Tragedy struck when the kidnappers shot AbdulRasheed Alafara in the leg and subsequently attacked him with machetes, leading to his untimely death as he attempted to flee.

Two of the victim’s siblings, Semiat Mukaila and Abdullahi, sustained gunshot wounds during the violent episode and are currently undergoing medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Swift Vigilante Response

Abdullahi, one of the survivors, recounted the harrowing ordeal and revealed that the gunmen operated for approximately 30 minutes.

Thankfully, local vigilantes responded swiftly to the distress call, engaging the kidnappers in a firefight that resulted in the death of one assailant.

They also managed to rescue the abducted mother.

Delayed Police Response

Despite a timely call for assistance to the police around 10:00 pm on Tuesday, Abdullahi lamented that law enforcement officers only arrived at the scene nearly twelve hours later, around 10:00 am the following day (Wednesday).

This delay raised concerns about the effectiveness of the response to such critical incidents.

Calls for Improved Security

Abdullahi appealed to the government to equip the vigilantes, emphasizing the vital role they played in addressing the security challenges in the state.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing security issues facing many communities in Nigeria.

Police Confirmation and Response

SP Ajayi Okasanmi, the spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the incident and assured that a team of police officers had been dispatched to the scene to investigate the matter and provide support to the affected family.
