Terry, a homeowner from Coleshill, Warwickshire, never expected to find himself facing down a group of masked intruders in the middle of the night.
But in the early hours of Monday morning, his doorbell camera alerted him to some suspicious movement outside.
What he saw on his phone screen was both strange and infuriating—a trio of thieves creeping up his driveway, seemingly targeting his Ford Ranger pick-up truck.
A Strange Approach
The CCTV footage revealed an odd sight: one of the masked men, dressed in a tracksuit with a backpack strapped to his front, was wildly waving his arms in the air.
It’s suspected he was trying to detect a signal from a cloning device that could override the truck’s security system.
As he patrolled the driveway, his two accomplices moved toward the vehicle, attempting to gain access.
What they didn’t realize was that their movements had triggered Terry’s security system, waking him up.
His wife urged him not to confront the intruders, but Terry had other ideas.
A Shout That Sent Them Running
Furious at what was unfolding outside his home, Terry threw open his blinds, banged on the window, and yelled, “What the f* you doing?”** The reaction was instant—the three intruders panicked and sprinted away from the house toward a waiting vehicle.
Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph, Terry explained, “The doorbell alerted me that someone was walking up the footpath, so I checked my phone.
I saw this guy with his hands in the air, then checked my other cameras and saw there were three of them. That’s when I decided to act.”
A Repeat Target
What makes this incident even more frustrating for Terry is that it wasn’t the first time his Ford Ranger had been targeted.
Just over a year ago, thieves successfully stole the same vehicle.
This time, however, he had installed a ghost alarm and tracker in an effort to prevent another theft.
Despite his precautions, Terry chose not to report this latest attempted break-in to Warwickshire Police.
His reasoning? A lack of confidence in the force’s ability to act.
“When my truck was stolen in January 2024, we managed to locate it ourselves the next day and told Warwickshire Police exactly where it was,” he said.
“They told us not to touch it and to call West Midlands Police instead.
In the end, we had to go and get it back ourselves from a house in Sheldon. The police took our tracker details but just send me the occasional text to say they’re still investigating. They were useless.”
Police Response
MailOnline has reached out to both Warwickshire Police and West Midlands Police for a statement regarding the case.
For now, Terry remains on high alert, knowing that while he scared away the thieves this time, they—or others like them—may be back.
