French Steeplechase Runner Alice Finot Breaks European Record and Proposes to Partner Bruno Martínez Bargiela at Stade de France

On Tuesday evening at the Stade de France, French steeplechase runner Alice Finot had a memorable night, breaking the European record in her 3,000-meter race. Despite finishing fourth in a fierce competition, she achieved a personal best with a time of 8 minutes and 58.67 seconds.

A Heartfelt Proposal

But that wasn’t the only highlight of her evening. As the crowd roared with excitement, Finot took a moment to celebrate her personal achievement by proposing to her partner, fellow athlete Bruno Martínez Bargiela.

In a charming twist, instead of a traditional ring, Finot proposed with a pin inscribed with “Love is in Paris.”

Finot shared that the proposal was inspired by a bit of numerology. “I set myself a goal to propose if I ran under nine minutes, especially since nine is my lucky number and we’ve been together for nine years,” she explained.

“I don’t like doing things the usual way, and since he hadn’t proposed yet, I thought maybe it was up to me.”

Engagement and Medal Moments

The couple was thrilled, with Finot confirming that Bargiela happily accepted the proposal. “It was an incredible experience; I was able to truly express myself,” Finot said. “It was just a tiny bit off from a medal, but I don’t regret anything.”

A Double Celebration in Paris

In a related story, Chinese badminton star Huang Ya Qiong also celebrated a major milestone in Paris. After winning gold in mixed doubles with Zheng Siwei, her boyfriend Liu Yuchen proposed to her with a bouquet of flowers and a ring.

Huang was taken by surprise, as she hadn’t expected the proposal amid her Olympic triumph.

“Today, I am an Olympic champion and also got proposed to, which is something I didn’t expect,” Huang remarked through an interpreter.
