The 12-year-olds are currently hospitalized after being burned during a fire that erupted in the restrooms of a Wendy’s location.

Emergency Response and Investigation

The alarming blaze occurred around 8:30 PM, prompting a swift response from emergency services across the city.

Sussex Police are actively investigating the cause of the fire, while social media reports suggested that witnesses heard what they thought was a fireworks explosion.

However, authorities have clarified that fireworks were not responsible for the incident.

A police spokesperson confirmed, “Four 12-year-old girls sustained potentially life-changing burns following an incident at Wendy’s on Western Road, Brighton, around 8:30 PM on Thursday, October 31.

They remain in the hospital at this time, and our inquiries to establish the cause of the fire are ongoing.”

While no arrests have been made, police have urged anyone with information to contact them online or by calling 101, referencing serial number 1241 of October 31.

Scene of the Incident

The fire occurred in the restaurant’s toilet area, which led to a temporary closure of Western Road to facilitate the response of emergency services, including the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

Footage shared online captures the chaotic scene outside the restaurant, with emergency personnel stationed at the entrance and the area cordoned off.

Wendy’s Response

Wendy’s, which opened its Brighton location in March 2022 as part of the brand’s expansion in the UK, expressed their concern for those affected by the incident.

A spokesperson stated, “Our thoughts are with those recovering from this incident in our Brighton restaurant.

The safety of our customers and employees is our highest priority. We are continuing to work with local police authorities on their investigation.”

As the investigation unfolds, the community remains on alert, hoping for the swift recovery of the injured girls.
