Former X Factor Winner Steve Brookstein Surprises Pub Patrons with Soulful Performance at The Courtyard in Northumberland

Last Saturday evening, patrons at a quaint pub in Northumberland received an unexpected delight while enjoying their drinks.

As they unwound with a quiet pint at The Courtyard, a rustic venue nestled in Morpeth, they were treated to a live performance by none other than Steve Brookstein, the former winner of X Factor.

At 55, Steve appeared quite different from his pop star days, sporting a black baker boy cap and glasses, yet his soulful voice still resonated throughout the cozy space.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

As Steve sang a medley of familiar hits, the atmosphere transformed.

Guests, some of whom might have recognized his gravelly tones, savored their meals and drinks while soaking in the nostalgic vibes.

It’s been quite a while since Steve’s moment of fame on the first series of X Factor, but his performance reminded many of the incredible journey he embarked on two decades ago.

From Aspiring Artist to Star

Born in London, Steve was a struggling singer in his thirties when he auditioned for X Factor back in 2004.

Although he didn’t initially impress judges Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne, Simon Cowell recognized his potential and sent him to the next round.

After winning the competition, he was heralded as the next Robbie Williams, launching into fame with a chart-topping single, a cover of Phil Collins’ “Against All Odds.”

However, despite his promising start, his career faced challenges, and he eventually parted ways with Sony BMG after releasing his debut album, Heart And Soul, which peaked at number one but didn’t sustain its momentum.

Reflections on X Factor

Over the years, Steve has been candid about his experience on X Factor, voicing concerns that the show had transformed the music industry into something akin to WWE wrestling.

He has expressed dissatisfaction with how he was treated during his time on the show.

In recent years, he has been busy writing and recording new music, even throughout the COVID-19 lockdown, though it’s been nearly a decade since his last studio album, Forgotten Man, was released.

A New Chapter in Scotland

Now residing in Scotland with his family, Steve performs occasionally at smaller venues, focusing on soul covers.

Earlier this year, he shared the stage with the 90s boyband East 17 at the Esher Theatre in Surrey.

Following that gig, he expressed his gratitude on social media, sharing his appreciation for the lovely venue and supportive audience.

Cancellations and Health Concerns

Steve’s upcoming performances haven’t been without hiccups, though.

In February, he was set to play at the Merryfield Theatre in Verwood, Dorset, named after the late Buster Merryfield from Only Fools and Horses.

Unfortunately, this show was called off just ten days prior, with his agent citing health issues due to Steve losing his voice.

While 27 tickets had been sold for the event, the venue managed to contact ticket holders, offering them either refunds or the option to attend a future event.

Looking Ahead

Despite the challenges, Steve remains optimistic about his future in music, with hopes of releasing new material soon.

As he continues to perform and share his music with fans, it seems that this journey is far from over.

What’s next for Steve Brookstein? Only time will tell, but his passion for music endures.
