Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Nkanyiso Zungu earns a fresh start at Pretoria Callies as Moses Malada reveals details of their crucial pre-signing conversation

Before Pretoria Callies decided to take a chance on Nkanyiso Zungu, team boss Moses Malada had a heart-to-heart talk with the former Orlando Pirates midfielder.

Zungu, who had previously struggled with off-field discipline issues, had found himself without a club after stints with major teams like Orlando Pirates, Stellensch FC, and Richards Bay FC.

Having spent the last season with Platinum City Rovers, who were relegated to the SAFA ABC Motsepe League, it seemed like his career was at a crossroads.

However, a second chance emerged when Callies, a second-tier club in Tshwane, showed interest.

The Conversation That Changed Everything

Malada admitted that he was hesitant about signing Zungu at first, given the player’s past challenges.

“I wasn’t sure about bringing him on board,” Malada revealed in an interview with FARPost.

“But after talking with him one-on-one, I could see a real desire for change.

He promised to work hard and prove himself.”

Malada also noted that Zungu had been performing well since joining the team, despite the concerns people had raised about his attitude.

“So far, he’s done great, much better than what the rumors suggested.”

A New Attitude on the Field

Since joining Callies, Zungu has not only been training hard but also showing leadership qualities by motivating younger players on the team.

“He’s not expecting special treatment and is working just as hard as everyone else.

It’s clear that he’s trying to turn things around,” Malada added.

Whether this season will mark the revival of Zungu’s career remains to be seen, but so far, he seems committed to making the most of this new opportunity.

A Visit from a Club Legend

In other news, Pretoria Callies had a special visit from club icon Lucas Moripe during one of their recent matches.

According to Malada, Moripe wanted to meet the players and the new coach.

“His message was simple—he wants to see Callies back in the top league.

That’s where he believes the club belongs, and it would make him incredibly happy if they were promoted while he can still witness it.”

What’s Next for Callies and Zungu?

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Zungu to see if he can maintain his positive trajectory and help Callies push for promotion.

Both the player and the club are looking for redemption, and only time will tell if this partnership will bring the success they’re aiming for.
