Amid recent controversies surrounding “Strictly Come Dancing,” Sam Quek, a former Olympian turned presenter, is eager to shift the focus back to the show’s brilliance.
She believes that despite the scandals, “Strictly” remains a fantastic program that brings people together.
Support for the Show
Sam Quek, who was the 15th and final contestant confirmed for the new series last month, voiced her unwavering support for “Strictly” even as previous contestant Amanda Abbington spoke out about alleged mistreatment during rehearsals.
Quek also seemed to back Giovanni Pernice, the show’s longest-serving male professional dancer, who faces accusations of bullying from Abbington.
Pernice has denied any wrongdoing, and a BBC investigation is currently underway.
Acknowledging Different Experiences
Quek acknowledged that everyone’s experience on the show is unique and that there are always two sides to every story.
She emphasized that while negative experiences should be addressed, they shouldn’t overshadow the show’s positive aspects.
“It shouldn’t take the shine off Strictly,” she said.
“It’s a fantastic program.
Everyone loves it for the energy. [On] Saturday night it brings people together.”
Taking the Competition Seriously
With her competitive spirit, Quek admitted that she’s taking her participation in “Strictly” very seriously.
“Of course you want to win,” she said, referring to the coveted glitterball trophy.
“But wanting to win and can you win, for me, are two completely different questions.”
Embracing the Experience
Despite having no previous dance experience, Quek is enthusiastic about learning and enjoying the process.
“I’m here for the glow-up,” she said.
“It’s amazing to be in this situation, to be taught how to dance by pros and world champions, and to be around a great show.”
Questions About Contestant Backgrounds
This year’s lineup has sparked some debate among fans, particularly regarding Tasha Ghouri, a former “Love Island” star, and JB Gill, a former JLS member.
Both contestants come with professional dance backgrounds in commercial street style, which some believe could give them an edge.
However, both have clarified that they lack training in Latin or ballroom dancing.
What lies ahead for the show remains to be seen, but Sam Quek’s optimism and commitment certainly set a positive tone for the upcoming series.
