Rudy Giuliani’s trial regarding whether he can keep certain valuable assets has been delayed after the disgraced former mayor failed to appear in court.
The case, stemming from his defamation conviction in a $148 million lawsuit, was scheduled to begin Thursday morning but was pushed back by several hours.
According to Inner City Press, Giuliani, who was almost two hours late, posted a video of his dog on social media instead of being in the courtroom.
A Public Distraction from the Courtroom
While the trial was supposed to start at 9 a.m., Giuliani didn’t make it on time and instead shared a light-hearted post about his dog, Vinny, on Twitter.
In the post, he mentioned that his dog enjoys Mar-a-Lago but is also looking forward to spending time in Washington, D.C., supporting former President Donald Trump.
The 80-year-old former mayor had previously faced contempt charges for failing to turn over asset information in a different case, resulting in a ban on introducing some evidence in court.
Legal Trouble Mounts for Giuliani
This particular trial is focused on whether Giuliani will be able to keep certain assets, such as his Palm Beach condominium, or if they will be seized as part of the $148 million judgment.
Although the defamation allegations and the financial penalty have already been decided, the court is now determining whether Giuliani can maintain ownership of his property.
He claims that he established Palm Beach as his residence in January 2024, but opposing lawyers argue that he continued to act as though his New York apartment was his primary home until it was handed over as part of the judgment.
Additionally, Giuliani’s collection of three World Series rings is under scrutiny.
He insists that he gave them to his son, Andrew, in 2018.
His assets have become a key topic in this ongoing legal saga.
Claims of Financial Strain
In a recent hearing, Giuliani defended his financial situation, stating that while he’s not impoverished, he doesn’t have access to most of his remaining assets.
He described his inability to access funds, including his Social Security account, due to “stop orders” placed on his finances, though he believes those orders are unjust.
Giuliani’s legal battles continue as he faces further scrutiny over his financial dealings.
