Veteran journalist Jim Acosta has officially married PBS NewsHour reporter Liz Landers, marking a new chapter for the couple just months after their engagement in Hawaii.
The wedding took place on Sunday evening at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia, where friends and family gathered to witness the private celebration.
Acosta confirmed the ceremony to The Washingtonian, noting that roughly 150 guests attended the event.
Photos later shared by the couple on social media captured key moments from the evening, including their first dance and candid interactions with guests.
A Relationship That Began Behind the Newsroom Walls
Acosta and Landers first crossed paths several years ago while working at CNN, though their relationship remained largely out of public view as their careers developed in parallel within Washington’s competitive political media landscape.
At the time, Acosta served as CNN’s chief White House correspondent, a role that placed him at the center of the network’s political coverage during a turbulent era in U.S. politics.
Landers began her journey at CNN in 2013 as a freelance news assistant before moving to Washington in 2017 to work as a White House producer.
She later transitioned into Capitol Hill reporting the following year, building her reputation as a rising political journalist.
First Impressions and Professional Respect
Reflecting on their early interactions, Acosta described Landers as a “tenacious reporter,” highlighting the professional admiration that initially defined their connection.
Landers, meanwhile, later shared that her first impression of Acosta was more lighthearted than his on-air persona suggested, recalling that he appeared “less serious and funnier in person than he was on TV.”
Their overlapping careers eventually evolved into a personal relationship that, despite occasional public appearances, remained relatively discreet.
From Hawaii Engagement to Virginia Wedding
The couple became engaged during a trip to Hawaii six months before their wedding, a moment they kept largely private until later confirming it publicly.
Their engagement came after years of both professional collaboration and shared appearances at Washington media events, including gatherings tied to White House Correspondents’ Dinner weekend and various press receptions.
One notable moment in their early public sightings included a kickoff event for White House Correspondents’ Dinner weekend in April of the previous year, where they were seen together among other political journalists and media figures.
Career Paths and Personal Transitions
Landers continued her career progression after leaving CNN in April 2019, joining Vice before eventually being appointed White House correspondent for PBS NewsHour in September 2025.
Acosta, who had been a prominent face at CNN for years, left the network last year after declining to participate in a programming reshuffle that would have shifted his morning show to a midnight slot.
His departure came shortly after Donald Trump’s return to the White House, a political backdrop that had long shaped his reporting focus.
Acosta has two children from his previous marriage to Sharon Mobley Stow, from whom he separated in 2017.
Honeymoon Plans and New Beginnings
Following their wedding celebration in Arlington, Acosta revealed that the couple plans to honeymoon in Capri, Italy, marking the start of their life together as newlyweds.
Their relationship, once carefully kept out of the spotlight, has gradually become more visible through select public appearances and shared moments on social media, culminating in a wedding that brought together colleagues, friends, and members of Washington’s press community.
