Former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs has weighed in on the Sea Robbers’ potential signings for the upcoming transfer window.

As the club looks to strengthen its squad ahead of CAF Champions League competition, Josephs has made some key recommendations to the Pirates’ board.

Two Talented Players to Consider

Josephs believes that Orlando Pirates should prioritize acquiring two standout players in the next transfer window:

Fawaaz Basadien, a left-back from Stellenbosch, and Oswin Appollis, a winger from Polokwane City.

Both players, in his view, could add the necessary quality to Pirates’ lineup as they look to continue competing on the continental stage.

“If you look at Appollis and Basadien, I think they can be quality signings for Orlando Pirates, which is competing on the African continent,” Josephs mentioned during a podcast appearance on Soccer Beat, as reported by FARPost.

Why Basadien Could Be a Game-Changer

One area where Pirates has faced challenges is the left-back position.

Although Deon Hotto has been a reliable and beloved figure in the squad, he’s getting older and doesn’t naturally play in that role.

Basadien, on the other hand, has been a standout at Stellenbosch, making 36 appearances in all competitions, including 19 league matches.

He has also contributed with three goals and three assists, showing his ability to impact games both defensively and offensively.

Stellenbosch, aware of Basadien’s potential desire to leave, already has a replacement in place with Omega Mdaka, a young talent who has been involved in 14 appearances across all competitions this season.

If Basadien is indeed open to a move, Pirates could be well-positioned to bring him to Soweto and fill that left-back gap.
