n a shocking incident, five police officers were shot and injured while attempting to serve a warrant at a residence near Princeton, Minnesota.

The suspect involved in this violent encounter was identified as 64-year-old Karl Thomas Holmberg, who initiated gunfire when the officers entered the property during the early morning hours.

As the police officers exchanged fire with Holmberg, a four-hour standoff unfolded. During this intense confrontation, Holmberg continued to pose a threat, and law enforcement officials worked diligently to bring the situation under control.

The prolonged standoff eventually led to Holmberg’s apprehension.

Injured Officers and Immediate Medical Care

This ‘critical incident’ resulted in injuries to five police officers, all of whom were rushed to hospitals for treatment.

Three of the injured officers were transported to North Memorial Health Hospital, while the remaining two received medical care at the hospital in St. Cloud.

A close friend of one of the officers who was shot revealed that his friend had undergone surgery after being struck by bullets twice, once in the chest and in other areas of his body.

Suspect’s Condition

Karl Thomas Holmberg, the suspect responsible for the shooting, was also wounded during the exchange with the officers. However, the exact nature and extent of his injuries were not immediately disclosed by Sheriff Troy Heck.

Additionally, a woman present in the house was transported to the hospital for assessment but was subsequently released.

Sheriff Troy Heck expressed his gratitude that the incident did not result in the loss of life or more severe injuries.

He acknowledged the bravery and professionalism of the law enforcement personnel involved in handling this dangerous situation.

Notably, two of the officers shot were investigators with the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office, and they were wearing bulletproof vests that played a crucial role in their protection.

The names of the involved personnel have not been released due to their undercover roles, as disclosed by Sheriff Heck.

He requested that everyone keep the injured officers, their families, and the respective agencies in their thoughts and prayers.

Although the public was advised to avoid the area on 190th Avenue Northeast, authorities assured there was no broader danger to the community.

In response to the incident, the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, known for its involvement in investigations related to shootings involving law enforcement officers, has been called in to conduct a thorough examination of the situation.

Scanner audio captured the intense exchange of bullets just before 7:15 a.m., followed by distressing calls of ‘shots fired’ and ‘officer down.’

Videos from the scene depicted armed SWAT teams and numerous police cars, illustrating the gravity of the situation and the comprehensive response by law enforcement.
