The recent 3-1 loss for Real Madrid at the hands of AC Milan has sparked intense reactions from both fans and players, with one significant voice coming from Federico Valverde’s partner, Mina Bonino.
The defeat, which took place at the Bernabeu on Tuesday, added more pressure on Carlo Ancelotti as the club continues to struggle this season.
Real Madrid’s performance in the Champions League this year has been far from ideal, with two losses out of four games, leaving them languishing in 17th place.
To make matters worse, they are now nine points behind their fierce rivals Barcelona in La Liga, following a crushing 4-0 defeat to them last month.
Bonino’s Outburst on Social Media
The decision to substitute Valverde at halftime, along with Aurelien Tchouameni, stirred anger not just among fans but also within the player’s inner circle.
Bonino, visibly frustrated, took to social media to express her displeasure.
She posted a cryptic message, hinting that she had much more to say but holding back to avoid repercussions.
“It’s better that I keep quiet because they would take me to jail,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
This sparked a response from a user who defended Ancelotti’s tactical change.
However, Bonino didn’t hold back and fired back, criticizing the decision.
“Fede plays best as a pivot and in recovery,” she argued.
“What are you talking about? When are they going to understand once and for all that Fede is not a winger?”
Her passionate response made it clear how strongly she felt about the situation.
A Quick Retraction
Later, Bonino claimed that her account had been hacked, distancing herself from the controversial posts.
She explained, “It’s not me, I was hacked,” perhaps trying to defuse the fallout from her initial comments.
Ancelotti Defends His Decision
When asked about the online backlash during his post-match press conference, Ancelotti responded thoughtfully, defending his substitution decision.
He acknowledged the complexity of social media opinions but remained firm in his reasoning.
“I replaced him because for me he was not 100 percent,” Ancelotti explained.
“He had back problems. He seemed to have recovered, but it seemed that he was not at his best physical level, that’s why I changed him.”
Ancelotti Reflects on the Challenges
Despite the heated controversy surrounding his decisions, Ancelotti didn’t shy away from addressing the broader issues facing Real Madrid.
Speaking candidly, he admitted the team’s performance has been concerning, particularly their defensive vulnerabilities, which have overshadowed what was once a strength.
“We’ve conceded too many goals in the last few games,” he said. “It’s something we have to fix.”
The coach also acknowledged the pressure he’s under, accepting responsibility for the team’s poor form.
“When the team doesn’t perform at its best, the coach is responsible. But it’s very important that we all take responsibility,” he stated.
Looking Ahead
Real Madrid’s next challenge comes on Saturday, when they will face Osasuna in La Liga.
After that, the international break will give Ancelotti some time to reflect and make necessary adjustments.
Despite the current turmoil, the coach remains optimistic about his team’s ability to turn things around.
“We have the confidence that we are going to improve and compete in all competitions, as we have always done,” he said, hoping for a brighter future after a difficult start.
