As Liverpool prepares for a summer of transfer shake-ups and big decisions, one player in particular finds himself at a crossroads—Federico Chiesa.
The Italian winger, once a highly anticipated addition from Juventus, now finds his future up in the air after a season of limited opportunities at Anfield.
A Frustrating Season on the Sidelines
Chiesa arrived at Liverpool with plenty of promise, costing just £12.5 million including add-ons—a bargain by Premier League standards.
But despite the excitement around his arrival, the 27-year-old has found himself mostly watching from the bench.
With only sporadic appearances under his belt, he’s understandably questioning whether he should stay and fight for a spot or head back to familiar territory in Serie A.
Prime Years Ticking Away
At 27, Chiesa knows he’s at a key stage in his career.
He can’t afford another season without regular minutes, especially when he still has so much to offer.
According to reports from Calciomercato, he’s now seriously considering a return to Italy, where clubs like Napoli and AC Milan are showing real interest.
His Agent’s Visit Could Be Telling
Chiesa’s agent, Fali Ramadani, is expected to travel to Merseyside soon to assess the situation and map out next steps.
It’s a visit that could very well determine whether Chiesa stays or goes.
On one hand, the winger is reportedly desperate to prove himself at Liverpool—he still believes he can make an impact.
But on the other hand, the competition for places is fierce.
Blocked by Salah, Diaz, and Gakpo
Mohamed Salah has been a force of nature this season, consistently performing at world-class levels.
Meanwhile, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo are battling it out on the left flank, leaving very little room for Chiesa to break into the starting eleven.
It’s a crowded attack, and unless something shifts dramatically—like a major injury or a tactical rethink from new boss Arne Slot—Chiesa may continue to be an afterthought.
Moments of Promise, But Not Enough
To be fair, Chiesa has shown glimpses of his quality. He impressed in a Champions League appearance against PSV and even netted a goal in the League Cup final.
But those flashes haven’t been enough to earn him regular starts.
Unfortunately, his performance during the shock FA Cup defeat to Plymouth didn’t help his case, reportedly leaving a negative impression on Slot.
Transfer Window Could Hold the Key
Much of Chiesa’s future may depend on what Liverpool decides to do this summer.
If someone like Diaz ends up leaving, the door could open for Chiesa to take on a bigger role.
But if the current pecking order remains intact, his chances of becoming a first-team regular are slim.
Will Liverpool Cash In?
From Liverpool’s point of view, there’s not much to lose financially.
Given how little they paid for him, the club could likely recoup most—if not all—of their investment should they choose to sell him.
If Chiesa does decide to push for a move, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him return to Italy where regular playing time seems far more likely.
