Myles Lewis-Skelly’s journey from an unknown talent to a record-breaking sensation has been nothing short of incredible.
Just a few months ago, the young left-back was sitting on the bench for Arsenal, with little recognition outside of the club.
But since making his first Premier League start in December, he’s quickly cemented his place as one of the key players in Mikel Arteta’s team.
A Star Called Up to England
His impressive performances didn’t go unnoticed.
England’s manager, Thomas Tuchel, took note and called him up to the national team for the World Cup qualifiers against Latvia and Albania.
Making his debut against Albania, Lewis-Skelly wasted no time, scoring the opening goal in just 20 minutes.
This goal secured a 2-0 win for England, and in doing so, he became the youngest player ever to score on his senior England debut at 18 years and 176 days.
He broke Marcus Rashford’s record, who previously held the honor at 18 years and 209 days when he scored against Australia in 2016.
Record-Breaking Moments in the Champions League
The records didn’t stop there.
When Lewis-Skelly was selected for Arsenal’s Champions League semi-final clash against Paris Saint-Germain, he broke two more records.
At just 18 years and 215 days, he became both the youngest Englishman and the youngest Premier League player to feature in a Champions League semi-final.
However, his record-setting moment was short-lived.
Just 90 minutes after making history, his teammate, Ethan Nwaneri, broke both of Lewis-Skelly’s records.
Nwaneri, aged 18 years and 39 days, replaced Martin Ødegaard in stoppage time, taking the title of the youngest English player and Premier League player to play in a Champions League last-four match.
What’s Next for Myles Lewis-Skelly?
While Lewis-Skelly may have lost his record, his story doesn’t end there.
His teammate Nwaneri could be on the verge of making even more history.
Nwaneri could become the youngest player to win the European Cup, breaking a record that has stood since 1962.
Currently held by Antonio Simoes, who won the title with Benfica at 18 years and 139 days, this historic achievement could be surpassed by Nwaneri if Arsenal triumph in the Champions League this season.
If they do, and Nwaneri is part of the winning team, he will set a new record at just 18 years and 71 days.
The journey for these young players has only just begun, and who knows what records they will break next.
