Former Eagles guitarist Don Felder, 77, experienced a sudden medical emergency while performing on stage Thursday night.
The iconic musician, known for his legendary guitar solos, was playing the band’s hit song “Tequila Sunrise” on the Rock Legends Cruise when the unexpected incident occurred.
Sudden Stop During Performance
As Felder played, he suddenly stopped strumming his guitar, staring offstage in a dazed manner.
Appearing unsteady on his feet, the situation quickly became serious when a crew member rushed to his side to support him.
Felder attempted to speak into the microphone but struggled to remain upright. He was promptly escorted offstage, with the audience offering their vocal support as he left.
Update on Felder’s Condition
The following day, Felder’s team issued a statement regarding the incident.
It was revealed that the musician had been suffering from dehydration, which caused the alarming medical emergency.
After receiving medical attention, Felder was reportedly feeling “much better.” The statement thanked fans for their concern and explained that the rest of the cruise schedule would be adjusted to give him time to recover fully.
“We appreciate everyone’s concern regarding Don Felder’s abrupt stop to his show last night on the Rock Legends Cruise,” the statement said. “He was given fluids and is feeling much better.
To ensure he has ample time to rehydrate and recover, we are working on rescheduling today’s shows and adjusting the remainder of the cruise schedule accordingly. Thank you for your understanding, and remember – drink your water!”
A Star-Studded Cruise Lineup
Felder was performing as part of the Rock Legends Cruise, which also features performances by music legends like Alice Cooper, Styx, Foghat, Robin Trower, and John Waite.
Despite the setback, Felder’s fans were understanding, and the cruise continued its journey from Miami to CocoCay in the Bahamas.
Don Felder’s Legacy with the Eagles
Felder became famous as the lead guitarist for the Eagles, a band that redefined West Coast rock music after forming in Los Angeles in 1972.
The Eagles sold over 120 million albums, providing a soundtrack for an entire generation with hits like “Take It Easy,” “Hotel California,” and “One of These Nights.”
“Hotel California,” in particular, remains one of the band’s most iconic songs, known for its intricate guitar outro performed by Felder and Joe Walsh.
Felder was part of the Eagles from 1974 until 2001, though his time with the band was marked by conflicts, particularly with co-lead singer Glenn Frey.
Tensions between band members ultimately led to his departure in 2001, after which he filed a lawsuit against the band for wrongful termination and other allegations. The case was settled out of court in 2007.
Felder has since continued to work on solo projects and maintain his presence in the music industry.
He was married to Susan Pickersgill for 30 years before their split in 2000, and together they have four children.
