David Mills, a wildlife conservationist and spouse of Dame Judi Dench, shares their 10-year romance with Countryfile viewers: “She loved my squirrels, not me,” I said.

David Mills, Dame Judi Dench’s companion of eleven years, has provided a rare glimpse inside their relationship.

The 77-year-old animal conservationist discussed his 88-year-old Oscar-winning spouse on Sunday during her Countryfile show.

David joked, “she fell in love with my squirrels not me,” as he recalled meeting Judi when she visited his wildlife sanctuary in Surrey.’

I noticed her coming in with her family, so ran I out and made myself known,’ the person narrates.

I said, “Yes, there is something I can do to help.

Will you come and open the red squirrel enclosure for me?” while I was constructing one.

She then asked, “Is there anything I can do to help.”

The British Wildlife Centre’s founder said, “She said yes, and the rest is history.”

David cracked a joke when asked who she fell in love with first: “My squirrels!”

Dame Judi previously shared a 30-year marriage with actor Michael Williams, who also starred with her in the sitcom A Fine Romance.

The actress previously stated that she did not believe “for a second” that she would find someone new after his death from lung cancer in 2001.

But after meeting David, she exclaimed, “It’s wonderful to be in love,” to Good Housekeeping in 2015.

That feeling you get when someone makes you laugh and you’re just happy to see them.

Dame Judi is the guest editor for Countryfile on Sunday nights on the BBC, where she is joined by Hamza Yassin from the Scottish Highlands and Charlotte Smith.

After filming in the Scottish countryside for her Countryfile special, Judi referred to Scotland as her “spiritual home” during the programme.

I would honestly say that Scotland is my spiritual home, she said, just because I feel at home here.

Judi has always loved the nation, and some of her most well-known films were filmed there.

Duns Castle in the Borders and the Ardverikie Estate in Badenoch were used for filming the 1997 blockbuster Mrs Brown, for which the actress received a BAFTA for her portrayal of Queen Victoria.

Meanwhile, some of the most well-known moments of her final appearance in the James Bond film series, 2012’s Skyfall, were filmed against the backdrop of Glencoe, a location in the Scottish Highlands.

Dame Judi performed a surprise New Year’s Eve concert with Texas singer Sharleen Spiteri back in January, much to the pleasure of the hotel’s guests in Aberdeenshire.

At The Fife Arms in Braemar, the 88-year-old seasoned actress and the 55-year-old Scottish vocalist performed a duet of Waterloo by ABBA.

The Hollywood beauty talks about her love of nature and her special fondness for trees in her Countryfile segment.

Judi stated, “I have a lot of famous people in my garden,” referring to the number of trees she planted in memory of her deceased celebrity pals.

The James Bond actress developed a love of trees at an early age after experiencing the pain of their destruction.

I used to get insanely irritated when I saw long lorries with enormous trees on them, she added.

I am unable to describe that.

I still find it objectionable to witness tree removal.
