Imagine attending the world’s most iconic music festival and witnessing history in the making.

On Saturday, Coldplay did just that, becoming the first band ever to headline Glastonbury five times.

Frontman Chris Martin, now 47, and his bandmates first graced the festival’s New Bands Tent in 1999.

Since then, they’ve headlined in 2002, 2005, 2011, and 2016.

The band’s set kicked off fifteen minutes late, opening with their 2000 hit “Yellow,” much to the delight of a massive crowd singing along.

However, not everyone was thrilled about the delay.

Viewers at home took to social media to vent their frustration.

Comments on X, formerly known as Twitter, ranged from playful jabs to annoyed complaints: “You’re running late lads.

Put a shift in!” and “Coldplay late what’s new.”

Despite the late start, Chris Martin’s confident presence on stage shone through as he performed some of Coldplay’s most beloved songs.

The historic show left fans with mixed feelings.

While some were moved to tears and called the performance “iconic,” others found it “boring.”

Enthusiastic fans shared their excitement on social media, praising the band: “OMG Coldplay are smashing it,” “Perfection,” and “Chris Martin never disappoints… Coldplay are spectacular.”

A Special Guest Joins

One of the most touching moments of the night was when 25-year-old disabled pianist Victoria Canal joined Coldplay for an incredible rendition of their 2011 hit “Paradise.”

Chris Martin, visibly moved, took Victoria’s face in his hands during the performance, highlighting the emotional depth of the moment.

Victoria shared that she was asked to join the band via a surprise video call from Chris himself.

Predicting Their Own Success

Chris Martin had predicted the band’s success long before they became famous.

In 1998, a 22-year-old Chris declared at UCL’s Wye Farming College that Coldplay would be huge and on national television within four years.

Remarkably, his prediction came true as the band made their Glastonbury debut the following year and headlined just three years later.

A Weekend of Star-Studded Performances

Glastonbury 2024 also featured performances by SZA on Sunday night and Dua Lipa, who lit up the stage on Friday night.

Shania Twain, at 58, is set to perform on Sunday afternoon, sharing her own excitement and preparations for the festival.

Coldplay’s historic fifth headline set at Glastonbury is a testament to their enduring appeal and the lasting impact they’ve had on the music world.
