Clinton Larsen has made it clear that he is not heading to AmaZulu FC, despite speculation linking him to the vacant managerial position.
The Magesi FC coach was a popular choice to take the reins after the departure of Pablo Franco Martin, who was dismissed following a string of disappointing losses that left the team at the bottom of the Betway Premiership table.
Magesi Stays Strong
Initially, there was considerable interest from AmaZulu in securing Larsen’s services, but no formal discussions took place.
The veteran coach, who previously managed Golden Arrows and Polokwane City, has opted to remain with Magesi, the newly promoted team from Limpopo.
Instead of Larsen, AmaZulu has appointed Arthur Zwane and Vusi Vilakazi to share coaching duties.
Magesi has been performing admirably lately, recently pulling off a stunning upset against Orlando Pirates in the Carling Knockout Cup and managing an exciting 2-2 draw with Kaizer Chiefs.
In that match, Magesi displayed remarkable resilience, with Kaizer Chiefs needing to come back from a two-goal deficit, thanks to a brace from Mduduzi Shabalala.
Larsen’s Thoughts on the Rumors
Reflecting on the buzz surrounding the AmaZulu position, Larsen acknowledged that it was an honor to be associated with such a prominent club.
However, he stressed that no negotiations ever took place. “I was very flattered to have been associated with a big team like AmaZulu,” he said.
“But you know, I did not speak to anybody from AmaZulu. I’ve got a two-year contract here at Magesi, and I’m focusing on my work here,” he shared with FARPost.
Magesi’s chairman, Solly Makhubela, supported Larsen’s statement, confirming that there had been no official approach from AmaZulu.
Looking Ahead
This weekend, Magesi is gearing up to face TS Galaxy in the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout at Mbombela Stadium.
Larsen expressed that the victory over Orlando Pirates has provided a significant morale boost for the team.
He noted, “The result against Orlando Pirates is a huge confidence booster, and it just goes to show that if a game plan is well executed, you can beat any team in the league. You’ve got to take your chances.”
Larsen emphasized the importance of being clinical in front of goal, pointing out that Magesi created several excellent opportunities against Orlando Pirates and converted three of them.
“It’s a matter of being clinical and taking your chances when playing against top teams. That’s what we’ve done. We’ve got to build on that performance,” he concluded.
With the team’s recent successes, Magesi looks to carry this momentum into their next challenge against TS Galaxy.
