Charles Omenihu stirred up speculation about his future with the Kansas City Chiefs after sharing a cryptic message on social media.
The defensive end, who faced a challenging season marked by injuries and suspension, now finds himself at a career crossroads.
Battling Injuries and Setbacks
Omenihu’s time with the Chiefs has been anything but smooth.
His season was cut short after suffering a torn ACL in January 2024, which forced him to miss the team’s Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
This came after an already rocky start in Kansas City, where he had to sit out the first six games of the season due to a suspension stemming from an alleged domestic-violence incident during his time with the 49ers in 2023.
Despite these setbacks, the 27-year-old played a total of nine games for the Chiefs and is under contract for the 2024 season, carrying a $6.74 million base salary and a cap hit of $10.97 million.
However, his future with the team remains uncertain, with no guarantee that Kansas City will extend his stay.
Cryptic Message Sparks Speculation
With questions swirling about his next move, Omenihu took to social media on Tuesday night, posting a short but pointed message on X: “Know your worth.”
The post immediately fueled speculation about his mindset and future with the team.
Sensing the buzz around his words, he later followed up with a clarification, urging fans and media not to overanalyze his posts.
“Please don’t read into what I say on this app during this time period. Don’t need y’all making assumptions,” he wrote.
Rallying Kelce to Keep Playing
Omenihu’s comments come as Kansas City processes a crushing 40-22 Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, a defeat that shattered their hopes of becoming the first team in the Super Bowl era to secure three consecutive championships.
Amid the disappointment, star tight end Travis Kelce has hinted at the possibility of retirement.
The 35-year-old opened up about his future on his podcast, New Heights, sparking concern among Chiefs fans.
However, Omenihu isn’t ready to see Kelce walk away just yet.
During an appearance on FS1’s The Facility, he made a passionate plea for Kelce to return for another season.
“We can’t go out like that,” he said. “He’s a Hall of Famer the moment he retires, but I think Trav has a lot left.
He’s an extreme competitor, and I don’t think he would want to end his career on that note.”
Omenihu remains hopeful that the Chiefs can bounce back next season, highlighting the return of key players like Rashee Rice and the strong leadership of head coach Andy Reid and general manager Brett Veach.
“They’re not gonna overlook anything that may have cost us this season. It’s gonna be a refuel and get back to it,” he added.
What’s Next for Omenihu?
As the offseason unfolds, all eyes will be on Omenihu and the Chiefs’ front office.
Will Kansas City offer him a long-term deal, or will he be forced to explore other options?
His social media posts suggest he’s weighing his future carefully, but for now, it’s a waiting game.
