In a case that has drawn significant attention, a charity worker faced court today charged with the murder of a renowned Michelin-starred chef.

The incident unfolded near the Notting Hill Carnival, and the accused, Omar Wilson, 31, was formally charged with the crime.

Incident Details

Mussie Imnetu, a 41-year-old chef from Sweden, was discovered unconscious with a head injury on Queensway at 11:22 PM on August 26.

Despite being rushed to the hospital, Imnetu passed away four days later on August 30.

Known for his prestigious roles under culinary giants like Alain Ducasse and Gordon Ramsay, Imnetu was in the UK on business.

Court Proceedings

Omar Wilson was arrested early Wednesday morning in east London and appeared at the Old Bailey today.

Dressed in a grey prison tracksuit, Wilson confirmed his identity and date of birth.

Prosecutor Julian Winship described how Imnetu was seen speaking with a group of three people shortly before the incident.

Wilson allegedly headbutted Imnetu, who subsequently received medical attention from paramedics but tragically died later.

Legal Status

Wilson, who is currently self-employed and directs a charity, has been remanded in custody by Judge Mark Lucraft, KC.

A plea and trial preparation hearing is scheduled for November 25, with a provisional trial date set for February 3.

Initially charged with grievous bodily harm with intent on August 30, Wilson’s charge was upgraded to murder following Imnetu’s death.

The court heard that Imnetu suffered severe brain injuries, including multiple cardiac arrests.

Ongoing Investigation

Detectives are still seeking information about Imnetu’s movements on the day of the incident.

CCTV footage shows him leaving The Arts Club on Dover Street around 1 PM on August 26, and he was seen arriving at Dr Power restaurant in Queensway at approximately 10:30 PM, still alone at that time.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson indicated that officers on duty during the Notting Hill Carnival were the first to find Imnetu and administer emergency first aid until paramedics arrived.

The police continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information about Imnetu’s activities that day.
