Busha and Tether Join Forces in Bold Move That Could Transform Cross-Border Payments Across Africa

Busha Business has entered into a strategic collaboration with Tether to expand access to regulated stablecoin infrastructure for businesses across Africa, a move designed to make international payments faster, cheaper and more efficient.

The partnership brings together Busha Business, the business-focused infrastructure arm of Busha, and Tether, the issuer of the USD₮ stablecoin, to provide companies with improved access to global digital liquidity for cross-border commerce.

Faster Payments and Improved Treasury Management

Through the collaboration, businesses will be able to use licensed stablecoin infrastructure to speed up international transactions while reducing many of the costs and delays associated with traditional banking systems.

The companies say the solution is intended to help businesses settle payments more quickly, manage treasury operations more effectively and improve liquidity for international trade.

With many African companies operating across multiple markets, the partnership seeks to address persistent challenges created by fragmented banking networks, foreign exchange volatility and slow settlement times.

Demand for Stablecoins Continues to Grow

The announcement comes as interest in digital assets for commercial use continues to rise throughout Africa.

Businesses are increasingly turning to stablecoins as practical payment tools rather than purely investment products, using them to facilitate international commerce, improve cash management and streamline financial operations.

Recent observations from the International Monetary Fund also highlight Nigeria’s growing role in global cryptocurrency adoption, underscoring the importance of regulated infrastructure to support continued growth in the sector.

Built on Licensed Financial Infrastructure

Busha Business operates on Busha’s Securities and Exchange Commission-licensed digital asset platform, allowing it to provide compliant financial services to businesses operating across borders.

The platform currently serves more than 1,500 businesses in Nigeria and Kenya.

In Kenya alone, over 250 companies reportedly use Busha Business to process millions of Kenyan shillings in daily transactions, including payments to overseas suppliers, treasury management and international settlements.

Tether Sees Opportunity to Modernise African Commerce

Tether Chief Executive Officer Paolo Ardoino said businesses in emerging markets continue to face significant obstacles when moving money across borders.

He noted that working alongside Busha will help reduce those barriers by providing businesses with quicker, more dependable payment infrastructure while supporting broader efforts to expand financial inclusion across the continent.

According to Ardoino, improving the speed and reliability of international payments remains a key priority as global commerce becomes increasingly digital.

Services Designed for Businesses of All Sizes

Busha Business provides financial infrastructure for a broad range of customers, including multinational companies, importers and exporters, e-commerce merchants, small and medium-sized enterprises, fintech firms and software developers.

Its Busha Pay platform enables businesses to receive international customer payments with settlement in U.S. dollars, while its savings products allow companies to earn returns on idle dollar and naira balances through licensed third-party asset management partners.

The company says these services are intended to help businesses manage capital more efficiently while supporting international expansion.

Busha Reaffirms Vision for African Financial Infrastructure

Busha co-founder and Chief Operating Officer Moyo Sodipo described the collaboration as another step toward building financial systems that better reflect the needs of African businesses.

He said modern companies require payment infrastructure capable of supporting real-time global commerce, adding that access to regulated stablecoin liquidity can improve international trade while strengthening treasury management.

Sodipo has previously advocated for greater development of locally relevant stablecoin infrastructure to reduce dependence on legacy payment systems designed outside Africa.

Stablecoins Becoming Part of Everyday Business

The collaboration reflects a broader shift in how businesses worldwide are using stablecoins.

Rather than viewing them solely as digital investment assets, an increasing number of companies are adopting stablecoins as part of their daily financial operations, including supplier payments, liquidity management and cross-border settlements.

Industry observers expect demand for regulated stablecoin infrastructure to continue growing as more African businesses expand into international markets and seek faster, more flexible alternatives to conventional banking systems.

With licensed regional providers partnering with established global stablecoin networks, digital payment infrastructure is increasingly positioned to play a larger role in Africa’s evolving commercial landscape.
