British Airways Expands Seasonal Schedule for London Heathrow to Cape Town Route, Adding Daily Flights and Enhancing Connectivity

British Airways is ramping up its flights between London Heathrow and Cape Town as the South African summer approaches.

Starting at the end of October, the airline will add an extra daily flight on this route.

By January 10, 2025, BA will increase the frequency to three flights a day, bringing the total to 21 flights per week between the two cities.

This expansion means that the current three-weekly seasonal flights from London Gatwick to Cape Town will be discontinued.

The Gatwick service will only operate from December 13 to January 8, 2025.

Wrenelle Stander, CEO of Wesgro and spokesperson for Cape Town Air Access, expressed enthusiasm about the update.

“The United Kingdom has always been a key market for Cape Town and the Western Cape, and we’re excited to boost our connectivity with more flights from London Heathrow,” Stander shared with Travel News.

Virgin Atlantic Extends Seasonal Flights

In other flight news, Virgin Atlantic is extending its seasonal service from London to Cape Town.

Traditionally running from October to March, the flights will now continue until April 30, 2025, to meet increased demand during the Easter period.

Marc Harding, Virgin Atlantic’s Country Manager for South Africa, mentioned, “The extension has been made to cover the higher demand over the Easter period.”

Travelers can look forward to flying on Virgin Atlantic’s Boeing 787-9, known for its fuel efficiency, with options including Upper Class, Premium, and Economy Light, Classic, and Delight cabins.
