Cath Jones, a breast cancer survivor, recently opened up about a painful encounter with Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans that left her deeply humiliated.
During a black-tie charity event, the opera singer made an insensitive joke about her baldness, a comment that still haunts her to this day.
The Hurtful Joke at a Charity Event
Cath, who was undergoing chemotherapy at the time and had lost her hair, recalled the moment when Evans made a joke about fellow celebrity Lawrence Llewellyn-Bowen’s hair.
She remembers Evans saying, “some of us had had their hair especially done for the occasion,” before turning to her and adding that others hadn’t bothered.
The remark struck a painful chord, and Cath immediately walked out of the event.
Evans’ comment was not only insensitive but left Cath feeling deeply embarrassed, especially in front of so many people at the charity event for Welsh cancer charity Tenovus.
She later expressed her feelings in a Facebook post, calling out the “repulsive” joke.
Evans’ Ongoing Controversy
This incident adds to the growing list of controversial comments surrounding Wynne Evans.
Recently, the Go Compare star was embroiled in a scandal after making an inappropriate joke involving sexual slang during a photocall for the Strictly Come Dancing live tour.
The comment, which many found offensive, led Evans to take a step back from his radio show and public commitments, issuing an apology for his actions.
But for Cath, this new revelation about Evans’ past behavior only reinforced her negative view of him.
She explained that she hadn’t forgiven him for the hurtful remark and found it hard to believe that Evans had learned any lessons from his past mistakes.
Cath’s Strong Recovery and Reflections on the Incident
Cath, now 51 and running a successful dog grooming business in South Wales, reflected on how she managed to recover from the trauma of her cancer diagnosis and the cruel remark.
She acknowledged that while she had bounced back from the experience, it still stung when she heard about Evans’ recent actions.
She added, “I’m a strong character, and thankfully I’ve moved on from the abuse, but I was devastated by how he treated me back then. He should have known better.”
Cath’s journey to recovery includes not only overcoming cancer but also learning to cope with the lasting impact of this public humiliation.
No Forgiveness for Evans
In her post, Cath also mentioned that she could no longer stomach listening to Evans’ radio show on BBC Radio Wales, as it reminded her of the traumatic event.
She expressed her disbelief that someone who had hurt her so deeply could continue to maintain a public profile without facing the consequences of his actions.
While Cath’s story is just one example, it highlights how words can linger long after the moment has passed, and why those in the public eye must think carefully before making hurtful jokes at the expense of others.
