Discovery and Identifying the Body
In the search for missing 43-year-old Laura Wilkie, authorities have found a body in Rozelle Park, Ayr, Scotland. Although not formally identified, the family of Ms. Wilkie, last seen sitting on a bench in Ayr before Christmas, has been notified about the discovery.
The circumstances surrounding the death remain unexplained, and investigations are ongoing.
Missing Person Report and Concerns
Ms. Wilkie was reported missing on December 19, having last been sighted on December 18 around 8:30 pm, sitting on a bench near the Millennium Bridge in Ayr.
Chief Inspector Kevin Lammie highlighted that her absence was unusual, expressing significant worry for her safety. CCTV footage showed her holding a distinctive blue cane, which she uses for walking.
Description and Search Efforts
Described as 5ft 4ins tall, of slim build, with greying, closely cropped hair, Ms. Wilkie was last seen wearing a dark padded coat with a beige fur-trimmed hood and another dark waterproof coat, along with black leggings and shoes.
She was carrying a black rucksack and the aforementioned blue cane. Chief Inspector Lammie emphasized their extensive search efforts, utilizing various resources like air support and dive units, focusing on areas near Ayr, Ayr beach, and Doonfoot.
Concerns for Safety and Appeals for Information
The local police expressed deep concern for Ms. Wilkie’s well-being, stressing that her lack of communication with her family was uncharacteristic.
Chief Inspector Lammie urged anyone with information about her whereabouts since December 18, 2023, to come forward. People were asked to contact authorities using reference number 1370 of December 19 by calling 101, as the investigation continues in an effort to find answers.
