British comedy veteran Bobby Davro has revealed he is currently undergoing treatment for prostate cancer, adding another difficult chapter to a period already marked by grief and serious health struggles.
The 67-year-old entertainer spoke candidly during an appearance on the ITV daytime programme This Morning, where he explained how a routine medical check ultimately uncovered the illness — despite him experiencing almost no obvious warning signs beforehand.
Routine Test Led to Shock Diagnosis
While speaking with presenters Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley alongside doctor Zoe Williams, Bobby explained that a friend encouraged him to undergo a PSA blood test, a screening tool commonly used to detect potential prostate issues.
According to the comedian, his doctor had noticed swelling during an examination and recommended additional testing.
The PSA reading later came back significantly elevated.
Bobby recalled the fear that followed the diagnosis, admitting the first question that crossed his mind was whether the disease was terminal.
Thankfully, doctors reassured him that the cancer had been detected at an intermediate stage and that treatment options were available.
The comic said the reassurance from his urologist left him emotional, particularly after being told he would “be buying Christmas presents for many years to come.”
Comic Spirit Still Intact During Health Struggle
Even while discussing the seriousness of the condition, Bobby maintained the humour that made him famous.
When asked whether he experienced symptoms before the diagnosis, he admitted the only issue he had noticed was erectile dysfunction.
True to form, he mixed honesty with jokes, making light-hearted remarks about Viagra and his attempts to deal with the problem before realising something more serious might be wrong.
The comedian repeatedly stressed the importance of men getting checked, especially because prostate cancer can develop quietly without major symptoms.
He also pointed out that Black men are statistically at higher risk of developing the disease, urging viewers to seek medical examinations and PSA testing early.
Treatment Underway as Bobby Remains Optimistic
Bobby revealed he is currently receiving injections and medication as part of his treatment plan.
Although he described the diagnosis as frightening and difficult, he expressed hope that the condition can be managed successfully.
During a separate interview on The Andrew Eborn Show, the entertainer confirmed he had already begun treatment and was trying to stay positive despite the emotional toll.
Keeping his trademark humour alive, he joked about the daily tablets prescribed following his previous health issues, saying laughter continues to be one of the few things helping him cope.
Tragedy Followed by Medical Emergencies
The diagnosis arrives after an especially painful few years for the comedian.
In May 2023, Bobby lost his fiancée Vicky Wright following her battle with pancreatic cancer.
Her death devastated the performer, who publicly shared heartfelt tributes describing the depth of his grief and the enormous void left behind.
Vicky was the daughter of legendary former England football captain Billy Wright and singer Joy Beverley of The Beverley Sisters.
In emotional messages posted after her passing, Bobby spoke about missing her laughter, smile, and presence, calling the pain of losing her overwhelming.
Despite the heartbreak, he returned to performing just one day after her death, determined not to disappoint fans who had already purchased tickets for his scheduled comedy appearances.
Stroke Scare Added to Difficult Period
Another frightening moment followed in early 2024 when Bobby suffered a stroke shortly after performing at a packed comedy show in South London.
The comic had reportedly received a standing ovation at Coulsdon Comedy Club before collapsing moments after leaving the stage.
He later described the incident as a sudden “funny turn,” which eventually led to doctors diagnosing a stroke.
Since then, Bobby has continued balancing recovery, medical treatment, and live performances while maintaining the upbeat personality audiences have associated with him for decades.
Growing Calls for Men to Prioritise Screening
Bobby’s public disclosure has added to wider conversations surrounding prostate cancer awareness and the importance of early detection.
Health experts continue encouraging men — particularly those over 50 and individuals considered higher risk — to seek medical advice if they notice changes or have concerns, even when symptoms appear minor or nonexistent.
By speaking openly about his own experience, Bobby hopes more men will feel encouraged to undergo testing before the disease progresses unnoticed.
