The Antiques Roadshow expert admitted that storing the bottles in the attic wasn’t a good idea, but he also drew attention to their rare nature, as it is “quite unusual” to find the bottles alone and “not in a collection”.
Audience shocked by the valuation
Not only the owner, but the TV audience were visibly shocked – gasping at the three bottles of dram’s extreme value. Many viewers took to Twitter to share their surprise.
Woman’s grandfather unknowingly gave her £15,000 whiskey
The owner explained that the bottles came into the possession of her family in the 1950s. Her grandfather allegedly brought them home “to the horror” of her grandmother, after a local pub was closing down, its landlord practically giving them away.
The pub landlord did not realise he was giving away what would become liquid gold, just over 70 years later.
Viewers react to the valuation
Some viewers were sceptical about the bottles’ high valuation, while others joked about the situation. However, many viewers were simply amazed by the find and the woman’s good fortune.
