Authorities in Melbourne, Florida, are currently responding to reports of an active shooter incident unfolding this Wednesday morning.

The incident has prompted a swift response from law enforcement, urging members of the public to steer clear of the Babcock Street and Strawbridge Avenue area.

Police Response and Situation Details

According to reports, the Melbourne Police Department received a call regarding suspicious activity at an apartment building, where officers were met with gunfire upon arrival.

It’s believed that the suspect responsible for the shooting is now barricaded inside one of the apartments.

A spokesperson for the Melbourne Police Department issued a statement, stating, “Melbourne PD is actively working an active shooter situation in the area of Babcock & Strawbridge.

Please avoid the area.”

The police have established a press staging area for updates near Hibicus, west of Babcock.
