Angolan defender Miguel Inacio recently made headlines by opting to join Kaizer Chiefs despite receiving more lucrative offers from North Africa.
Inacio’s move from Petro de Luanda to the Soweto giants marks one of the club’s seven significant signings aimed at bolstering their squad for the upcoming 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.
Alongside Inacio, Chiefs have brought in Bongani Sam, Njabulo Blom, Bradley Cross, Gaston Sirino, Rushwin Dortley, and Fiacre Ntwari to strengthen their lineup.
The Allure of Kaizer Chiefs
Newly appointed Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has shown considerable interest in Inacio, who is known for his versatility, including his ability to play as a right back and central defensive midfielder.
Inacio’s decision to join Chiefs isn’t just about football; it reflects the club’s prestige and long-term vision.
Inacio spoke candidly about his new team, stating, “Kaizer Chiefs is a different team, there is no comparison in Africa in my opinion.”
He highlighted that the club’s scale, developmental infrastructure, and organization rival those he experienced during his time at Braga in Portugal.
For him, Chiefs’ stature and ambition were major factors in his decision.
Inacio’s Motivation Beyond Money
Despite tempting offers from North Africa, Inacio’s choice was driven by more than just financial incentives.
“If I want money, I would not come to South Africa,” he remarked.
Instead, he was drawn to the “exciting project” and the promising future that Chiefs represent, underscoring his genuine enthusiasm for the club’s vision.
Ready to Make an Impact
Inacio’s excitement about contributing to his new team is evident.
“I want the league to start tomorrow because I want to play,” he said, eager to prove himself under Coach Nabi’s direction.
Even with recent challenges, Inacio remains confident in Chiefs’ potential.
“I don’t agree when you say the league [title] is not an objective when you’re at Kaizer Chiefs,” he asserted.
The defender is determined to help the club regain its status as a dominant force in South African and African football.
The new season for Chiefs kicks off with a match against Marumo Gallants at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, scheduled for 17h30.
