This summer’s transfer window has seen plenty of activity, but former Manchester United striker Andy Cole believes Arsenal made one of the smartest moves.
According to him, one of the Gunners’ new signings could very well be the best bit of business during the window.
Arsenal’s Summer Spending
Arsenal invested over £100 million this summer, aiming to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title, which they haven’t won since 2004.
Among their key signings were David Raya, who joined from Brentford for £27 million, Riccardo Calafiori for £42 million, and Mikel Merino for £33 million.
On transfer deadline day, they added a big name to their roster—Raheem Sterling, who came on loan from Chelsea.
Andy Cole’s Perspective
Andy Cole is particularly impressed by Arsenal’s acquisition of Sterling.
When asked about the most notable transfer of the summer, Cole mentioned Sterling’s loan move to Arsenal as his top pick.
He expressed surprise at Chelsea’s decision to let Sterling go, especially with their manager, Enzo Maresca, stating that Sterling wouldn’t get much playing time under him.
Cole believes Arsenal capitalized on this situation, seeing Sterling as a valuable addition to their squad.
Sterling’s Move to Arsenal
Sterling’s arrival at Arsenal comes after a difficult period at Chelsea, where he was sidelined by Maresca.
At 29, Sterling reunites with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, whom he previously worked with at Manchester City when Arteta was Pep Guardiola’s assistant.
Sterling himself is excited about the move, describing it as a “perfect fit.”
He shared that although the deal was finalized late, he had been hoping for the transfer.
After conversations with Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu, Sterling was eager to join a team he sees as united and hungry for success.
What’s Next for Sterling and Arsenal?
Now that Sterling is part of Arsenal, fans are eager to see how he fits into the squad.
With his experience and familiarity with Arteta’s coaching style, there’s optimism that he could be a key player in Arsenal’s quest for Premier League glory this season.
