Amid ongoing global tensions, America’s Russia-Ukraine envoy Keith Kellogg is reportedly working on a set of proposals aimed at bringing an end to the Russia-Ukraine war.
According to sources cited by Semafor, Kellogg has briefed U.S. allies on these options, which he intends to present to Donald Trump.
While previous reports suggested he might unveil a proposal at the Munich Security Conference, Kellogg has denied such claims.
Trump Signals Progress, But Details Remain Elusive
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump expressed optimism about efforts to resolve the war but refrained from disclosing specifics, particularly regarding any potential talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The former president has repeatedly stated his desire to meet with Putin to negotiate an end to the conflict, though no official plans for such a summit have been confirmed.
The Kremlin has remained equally tight-lipped.
When questioned about a possible conversation between Trump and Putin, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov provided a vague response, neither confirming nor denying any discussions.
Behind-the-Scenes Diplomacy
When pressed on whether he had spoken to Putin since taking office on January 20, Trump responded cryptically: “I’ve had it. Let’s just say I’ve had it… And I expect to have many more conversations.
We have to get that war ended.” He declined to elaborate further, emphasizing the sensitivity of the matter.
Meanwhile, U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz hinted that diplomatic negotiations are ongoing.
He suggested that Trump might leverage economic pressure, including sanctions and tariffs, to push Russia toward a resolution.
Economic Incentives and Ukraine’s Position
Trump’s stance on Ukraine has been complex.
While he has shown reluctance to continue large-scale financial aid, he has floated the idea of linking assistance to access to Ukraine’s valuable rare mineral resources.
This approach suggests a strategic shift—one that prioritizes economic interests alongside diplomatic efforts.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signaled openness to such a discussion.
In a recent interview with Reuters, he indicated a willingness to explore a potential deal, stating, “If we are talking about a deal, then let’s do a deal, we are only for it.”
What Comes Next?
As diplomatic efforts continue, all eyes remain on potential backchannel communications between Trump and Putin.
Whether these discussions materialize into a concrete peace plan or remain stalled in uncertainty is yet to be seen.
With global stakes high, the coming weeks could prove pivotal in determining the course of the war and the broader geopolitical landscape.
