Alwen Hughes, the 93-Year-Old Widow of Paedophile Rolf Harris, Dies at 93 in Berkshire Mansion After Long Struggle with Dementia

The passing of Alwen Hughes, the widow of convicted paedophile TV star Rolf Harris, marks the end of a long and troubled chapter.

Alwen, who was 93, died 15 months after her husband’s death.

She had spent her final days in the lavish riverside mansion in Bray, Berkshire, a property valued at £5 million.

This was the same home she shared with Harris until his death from neck cancer on May 10 of the previous year.

Alwen’s Final Days

Alwen, who had been struggling with dementia, was seen in a wheelchair in her later years and reportedly spent much of her time bedbound.

Neighbors described her final years as being marked by a lack of quality of life.

Her death certificate reveals that she passed away from a stroke.

With the estate now in poor condition, a local estate agent predicts that the family home might sell for less than £2 million.

A Final Request

Before his death, Harris made a heartfelt plea to their only daughter, Bindi.

He asked her to “look after your mum” in his absence.

Despite the scandal surrounding him, Alwen remained by his side throughout his legal troubles, including his 2014 conviction for indecent assaults on underage girls.

Their 65-year marriage came to an end with Harris’s death, after which he expressed a desire to spend whatever time he had left with Alwen.

Alwen’s Life and Legacy

Alwen Hughes, born on December 16, 1931, in north London and raised in Wales, was a talented jeweler and sculptor.

She met Harris in the early 1950s at an art school in Kennington, London, and they married in 1958.

Known for her quirky fashion sense and even having a poodle as a bridesmaid, Alwen was a fixture by Harris’s side, even attending his trial in 2014 with their daughter, Bindi.

Harris’s Convictions and Alwen’s Support

Harris was convicted in 2014 for multiple indecent assaults dating back to the 1960s, including offenses against young girls.

Despite the serious nature of the charges, Alwen continued to support her husband publicly, refusing to believe in his guilt.

In 2017, while still imprisoned, Harris faced another trial for additional allegations but was ultimately acquitted.

A Troubled Marriage

In a 2023 documentary, Chris Brosnan, a former bandmate of Harris, suggested that the marriage had been marred by numerous alleged affairs.

According to Brosnan, Harris’s behavior towards other women often disregarded his wife and daughter.

Moving Forward

Recent reports indicate that Bindi Harris has changed her name to Ava Reeves, likely in an effort to distance herself from the negative legacy of her father.

The final images of Alwen and Harris, showing them together with their dog, contrast sharply with the dark times that defined their later years.
