A body has been located in the search for Claire Knights, an artist who went missing on August 23. A man in his twenties from Margate has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the case. Claire Knights, aged 54, vanished while walking her dog near Upstreet village, close to Canterbury in Kent. Authorities are treating her disappearance as suspicious and potentially linked to a murder.
Her silver Suzuki car was discovered parked on Shuart Lane in St Nicholas-at-Wade near Birchington. It is believed that she walked from there to the Minnis Bay area of Birchington, where she was reportedly spotted later that day. Her white-and-brown spaniel was found wandering alone on the beach by the police on the same day.
Kent Police released a statement confirming the discovery of a deceased woman near Minnis Bay, Birchington, after being alerted by a member of the public on August 25. The family of the missing woman has been informed. Although formal identification is pending, the death is being treated as suspicious. A man in his twenties from Margate was arrested on suspicion of murder on August 24.
Claire Knights is described by a friend as a talented sculptor who has received awards for her heartfelt artwork. She holds a 1st Class honours degree in Fine Art and her works have been showcased at notable galleries including the Turner Contemporary Gallery in Margate and the One New Street Gallery in Herne Bay.
Search efforts involving RNLI lifeboats, Coastguard rescue helicopters, and various agencies were conducted both on land and at sea. The investigation into Claire Knights’ disappearance and the circumstances surrounding her death is ongoing.
