After reports of a ‘active shooter’ in the chemistry building, the University of North Carolina has gone into lockdown.UNC and local authorities issued a “be on the lookout for an armed and dangerous person” alert for the area around the university’s Caudill Labs.
Even though witnesses claim to have heard “multiple shots,” it is still unclear whether or not a suspect has been captured. At 1 p.m., police issued a warning telling everyone on campus to stay indoors until further notice. Professor Noel Brewer reported that his classroom was “on lockdown” due to a “active shooter somewhere nearby.” Apparently there were gunshots at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The scanner recently picked up a Silver Nissan vehicle with the license plate number TJN-4072; police are trying to locate the driver. At least two people may have been killed. On the ambulance scanner, the words “additional victim in room 159 at Caudill labs” were just broadcast.

Maybe in the same ballpark as genomics. A student was shot, so I’ve heard.PhD student Jake Sirlin reported a “active shooter” on X (previously Twitter).
He announced, “There is an active shooter in the UNC chemistry building right now.” One individual has been shot, at the very least. To this day, I remain hidden. If you have any friends or family members who work here, it is imperative that you get in touch with them. Never before have I been so terrified. The University has stated that the situation on campus is still active as of 2:00 pm today and has asked that the public refrain from coming to campus. All doors to all Chapel Hill-Carrboro Schools buildings are locked and in a secure state. The special meeting of the Board of Trustees and the meeting of the Faculty Executive Committee scheduled for Monday afternoon have both been canceled. This is an ongoing saga.
