16-Year-Old Charged with Attempted Murder in Violent School Incident

…By Alan Peterson for TDPel Media. A 16-year-old teenager has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of GBH with intent following a violent incident at a private school in Tiverton.

The Devon and Cornwall Police announced that the teenager will appear at Exeter Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The incident involved “violent assaults” on two boys and a staff member, with the injured boys remaining in the hospital, one in critical condition and the other in a serious but stable condition.

Investigation and School Support:

The police have established a scene guard at the school, which will remain in place until the end of Saturday.

Commander Superintendent Toby Davies expressed thoughts and support for the injured boys and their families, acknowledging the difficult time they are going through.

The police are actively investigating the incident and are working closely with the school community to provide necessary assistance.

Importance of Upholding Legal Restrictions:

Commander Superintendent Toby Davies emphasized the legal restrictions surrounding the identification of suspects under the age of 18.

It is crucial for both media organizations and the public to adhere to these rules, including refraining from sharing information on social media.

Failure to comply with these restrictions can be seen as interfering with an ongoing investigation and criminal trial, potentially leading to charges of contempt of court.

Communication from the School:

Headteacher Bart Wielenga sent a letter to parents and guardians, addressing the incident that occurred at one of the school’s boarding houses.

The school is cooperating closely with the police and following their established procedures.

Mr. Wielenga urged parents and guardians not to engage in speculation or post about the incident on social media, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a responsible and supportive atmosphere.

The charges brought against the 16-year-old teenager involved in the violent incident at a private school highlight the seriousness of the matter.

As investigations continue, the injured boys and their families receive support from the police and the school community.

It is essential for the public to respect legal restrictions regarding the identification of underage suspects and to avoid speculation or discussion of the incident on social media platforms.

The focus remains on providing assistance to those affected and ensuring a thorough and fair investigation takes place.
