Zaria Mosque Mishap: LP Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, Expresses Sympathy

The LP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has shared his condolences following the unfortunate event at the Zaria Central Mosque in Kaduna State.

This sorrowful incident occurred on a Friday evening.

Details of the Incident

Earlier reports from Naija News disclosed that the mishap resulted in at least four fatalities and left seven injured.

Obi’s Sympathy and Message

Obi took to his official Twitter to convey his sympathy to the families of the victims.

He prayed for Allah’s mercy and for the departed souls to find peace in Aljanna (paradise).

The former Anambra State Governor also extended his condolences to the residents of Zaria and the entirety of Kaduna State.

He stated: “It deeply saddens me to learn about our fellow citizens in Zaria who faced this tragedy while they were at the Zaria Central Mosque for their Asr prayers on Friday.

I pray for Allah’s mercy on the deceased and hope they find their way to Aljanna.

I wish a speedy recovery for the injured and my thoughts are with the families of the lost and with the people of Zaria Emirate and Kaduna State during this distressing time.”

Emir of Zazzau’s Statement

The Emir of Zazzau, Mallam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, provided more details about the tragedy.

He explained that the victims were in the middle of the Asr prayer, around 4 pm, when the structure fell on them.

The Emir revealed that there had been visible damage to the mosque’s wall a day prior.

Bamalli mentioned, “We had previously noticed a crack on the mosque’s wall and had made plans to send civil engineers to carry out repairs.

Sadly, the catastrophe occurred before we could act.”

As a precautionary measure, he advised worshippers to conduct their prayers outside the mosque until the necessary repairs are completed.
