Wimbledon Shock! Emma Raducanu Defies Injury Fears With Dramatic Last-Minute Decision

Emma Raducanu has confirmed she is preparing to compete at Wimbledon despite ongoing concerns over a leg injury that threatened to derail her participation in this year’s Championships.

The British star said her current expectation is to play on Monday, although she acknowledged that extensive treatment will continue in the hours leading up to her opening-round match.

Seeded 30th for the tournament, Raducanu is scheduled to face Croatia’s Antonia Ruzic on Court One as she begins another Wimbledon campaign.

Practice Session Offers Encouragement

The 23-year-old reached her decision after testing her fitness during a brief training session at the All England Club on Sunday.

While she stopped short of guaranteeing her availability, Raducanu expressed optimism that her recovery had progressed enough to give herself the opportunity to compete.

She explained that her medical team would continue working to manage the issue before match day, with every effort focused on ensuring she is fit enough to take the court.

Injury Scare Raised Alarm Throughout the Week

Questions over Raducanu’s condition intensified after she was seen wearing a protective medical boot earlier in the week.

The injury prevented her from practicing on both Thursday and Friday, with reports suggesting she has been dealing with discomfort around her shin.

She returned to training on Saturday, completing a light session while wearing protective strapping around her lower right leg.

Later that day, she also played part of a practice set against Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya before ending the session earlier than planned.

Ongoing Issue Managed Carefully

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Raducanu described the problem as a minor but persistent issue that she has been managing for roughly a month.

She suggested that the physical demands of reaching the final at Queen’s Club may have contributed to the discomfort, particularly after spending several months with limited competitive action.

According to Raducanu, her team has been exploring every available treatment option in an effort to keep the condition under control while allowing her to continue competing.

Difficult Season Interrupted by Health Problems

The latest fitness concern adds to a career that has repeatedly been interrupted by injuries since her remarkable US Open triumph in 2021.

Earlier this season, a viral illness significantly limited her tournament schedule, restricting her to just six matches between early February and the start of the grass-court season.

Despite those setbacks, Raducanu regained momentum at Queen’s, where an impressive run to the final renewed confidence that she could enjoy another strong performance at Wimbledon.

Strong Memories at the All England Club

Wimbledon has produced some of Raducanu’s most memorable performances outside of her Grand Slam breakthrough in New York.

She reached the fourth round during her debut appearance in 2021 before matching that achievement again in 2024, reinforcing the belief that her aggressive baseline game is particularly well suited to grass courts.

Competing in front of home supporters has consistently brought out some of her best tennis, making the prospect of missing the tournament especially disappointing.

Determination Could Outweigh the Risk

Although uncertainty remains over how her leg will respond during competitive play, Raducanu appears determined to give herself every possible chance of participating.

Her willingness to continue treatment and push for a return reflects both the significance of Wimbledon and her confidence that she can still perform despite the lingering discomfort.

If she is cleared to play, Raducanu will hope to put the injury concerns behind her and focus on building another memorable run at Britain’s biggest tennis event.
