Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin faces intense criticism after claiming Democrats should tell voters Republicans want to kill their kids in podcast controversy

Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin sparked widespread backlash after suggesting that Democrats should tell voters that Republicans “want to kill your kids.”

The comment quickly became the subject of mockery and criticism across social media platforms.

A Shift from Conservative to Liberal Advocacy

Rubin, 62, originally gained recognition as a conservative commentator at the Jeff Bezos-owned Washington Post.

However, since Donald Trump’s rise to power, she has shifted her stance and become a vocal advocate for the Democratic Party.

On her podcast, Jen Rubin’s Green Room, she offered some surprising advice to liberals in light of Trump’s 2024 victory over Kamala Harris.

The “Pithy” Message for Democrats

Rubin explained that Democrats need to simplify their messaging to resonate with voters who may not be well-informed.

“You have to boil it down to nuts and bolts, and you have to be pithy,” Rubin advised.

When asked to clarify what she meant by “pithy,” she boldly declared, “How about this: Republicans want to kill your kids. It’s actually true.”

Claims About Trump’s Cabinet and Gun Policies

In making her case, Rubin pointed to Trump’s Cabinet selections, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whom Trump nominated for Secretary of Health and Human Services, despite Kennedy’s controversial anti-vaccine views.

She also criticized conservative stances on gun rights, linking the pro-gun agenda to gun violence in schools.

“If you’re going to oppose vaccinations, if you’re going to stop breakthrough medical research, if you’re going to allow minors and all sorts of people to get semiautomatic weapons — which they use to shoot up schools — well then, you are responsible for kids’ health and death,” she argued.

Conservative Backlash

Rubin’s comments were met with sharp criticism from conservatives online, who quickly responded with their own pointed remarks.

“Jen Rubin hides under protected posts while telling her audience ‘Republicans want to kill your kids.’

No. It’s the Democrats that die on the hill of abortion, and abortion kills,” one user fired back, referencing abortion statistics.

Others referred to Rubin as a “garbage human” and accused her of being a partisan cheerleader for the Democratic agenda.

Rubin’s Call for Action and Media Criticism

Aside from her inflammatory comments, Rubin has also voiced her displeasure with the Washington Post’s editorial direction, especially after the newspaper opted not to endorse Kamala Harris for president.

She signed an op-ed alongside other columnists to express outrage over the decision, which was reportedly influenced by Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos.

Rubin has since called for a boycott of MSNBC, a network she often appears on, following reports that the hosts of Morning Joe met secretly with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate.

Bezos Denies Involvement in Endorsement Decision

In response to the controversy, the Washington Post’s publisher, Will Lewis, denied claims that Bezos played a role in the paper’s decision to withhold an endorsement of Kamala Harris.

According to David Shipley, the paper’s page editor, an endorsement had been drafted and was under review by Bezos, but was ultimately scrapped just days before the election.

The fallout from this decision led to the resignation of at least one editor and a loss of subscribers, with some readers choosing to cancel their subscriptions in protest.

As tensions continue to rise, Rubin’s comments have ignited a fiery debate on the state of political discourse and the role of media in shaping public opinion.
