In a heated exchange, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky didn’t hold back when responding to Tucker Carlson’s recent claims that he is ruling Ukraine as a dictator.
Appearing on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Zelensky took aim at the political commentator, who had suggested that the Ukrainian leader was silencing dissent and even orchestrating the deaths of political opponents.
Zelensky’s Furious Response to Carlson’s Allegations
Zelensky was furious as he addressed the accusations, calling Carlson a mouthpiece for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The confrontation began after Carlson, a vocal critic of U.S. support for Ukraine, alleged that Zelensky had illegitimately held on to power by using oppressive tactics and that political opponents had met grim fates.
In response, Zelensky unloaded on the controversial broadcaster, saying, “Stop working for Putin, stop licking his a**.”
Accusations of Dictatorship and Murder: Zelensky Defends Himself
The Ukrainian president didn’t just refute the allegations but also turned the tables on Carlson.
He criticized the American commentator for parroting Kremlin propaganda and for labeling him a dictator. Zelensky pointed out the irony of Carlson’s stance, given that he was echoing the narrative of a “bloody dictator” like Putin, who has been in power for over 30 years.
“Putin has a narrative on elections, on my legitimacy, on dictatorship.
That’s from a person who is a bloody dictator, murderer who violated territorial integrity of Ukraine,” Zelensky declared.
“And regrettably, this blogger or journalist – whatever he wants to call himself – unfortunately fully repeats the words of Putin and what he wants. He works for Putin.”
Zelensky Explains His Position on Elections During Wartime
One of Carlson’s key criticisms was Zelensky’s postponement of elections and his clampdown on dissent.
Zelensky, however, defended his stance, explaining that holding elections in the middle of a war would be impossible due to logistical and legal barriers, including millions of displaced citizens and soldiers stationed at the front.
He clarified that he remains committed to democratic principles, having been elected with 73% of the vote.
“I always said that I am open to any elections,” he affirmed.
The Truth Behind Viktor Medvedchuk’s Arrest
One of the most explosive allegations was that Zelensky had ordered the murder of political opponents.
The Ukrainian president was quick to respond, shedding light on the case of Viktor Medvedchuk, a pro-Kremlin politician and close associate of Putin.
Medvedchuk had been arrested and later exchanged for 200 Ukrainian POWs.
Zelensky explained that Medvedchuk was the leader of the second-largest party in Ukraine, which was heavily pro-Russian.
He had even attempted to install a puppet regime that would have served Russia’s interests.
“Medvedchuk was always against Ukraine, against our independence, against the EU, against NATO,” Zelensky explained.
“When the war started, Putin was giving his ultimatums via this party to me.”
Zelensky’s Scathing Criticism of Tucker Carlson
Zelensky didn’t mince words when addressing Carlson directly, calling him out for his lack of understanding of the situation in Ukraine.
“It seems to me that this journalist – I do not remember his surname, excuse me, Tucker.
Yes, yes, Tucker is his name – he needs to more deeply understand what’s happening in Ukraine, to stop working for Putin, to stop licking his ass,” Zelensky stated.
Carlson has long been a critic of U.S. financial support to Ukraine and has raised concerns about the country’s leadership under Zelensky.
His remarks on Zelensky’s governance resonate with certain factions in American politics, particularly those skeptical of ongoing aid to Kyiv.
Zelensky Talks Nuclear Weapons and Foreign Aid in Explosive Interview
The interview, which lasted over 90 minutes, covered a wide range of topics.
One of the most significant moments was when Zelensky warned that Ukraine may reconsider its nuclear disarmament if it is not allowed to join NATO.
“Ukraine may need its nuclear weapons back if they were not allowed to join NATO,” he said, raising alarms internationally.
He also addressed concerns about missing foreign ai
d, assuring that every dollar was accounted for. “Missing billions? We have nothing to hide. Every dollar is accounted for,” he stated, firmly rejecting allegations of corruption within the Ukrainian government.
